It's first thing on a Monday Morning and already I have been asked a question thats too hard....

Is it possible to have images in a dropdown box? Or would I have to code a hidden div to imitate a dropdown box?

By dropdown box, you mean an HTML <select> element?

No, not possible.

I've never, ever, ever understood people who think usability is giving the user 1,000 options from the getgo. Dropdown menus should be banned.

This is not me judging you iconian. This is me just having finished a dropdown/flyout menuing system with a total of ~100 options to be found. That's a website that doesn't understand its purpose.

Anyway, DL's correct. No way to do it with a <select>. If you must, use CSS divs and wrap in Javascript to hide/show the options.

But consider revising your usability standards.

All it is wanted for is within a Gallery Script give a dropdown of different layout options, youknow image centred, image left etc.... so probably max of 4 I guess we'll do it with radio buttons then as I originally thought.

Thanks Guys

Okay, I can see why you'd like a dropdown here... but... why would you need an image to portray "image centered?"

I say image centered and image left as examples but it will actually be an a visual image of a custom template designed to a clients requirements. (I'm actually working a with a local photography magazine to design portfolio pages for its readers, they are paying for the back-end (reader subsidized of course) and the readers will be paying for any mods/templates) So one client may just want image centered or left image with text under but another may want text above, image left with text to the right and more text below, and vary this from page to page. I was hoping to give a visual clue rather than have to try to explain the difference by text.....
