Topic: Fedora failed fidelity tests.

I got all 5 (Fedora Core 6 i386) CD ISOs downloaded and 3 CDs burned (not moving on till I see that I need the other CDs). All three failed the tests. I checked all the 5 download ISOs' fidelity, all SHA1 hashes matched. I burned the CDs at my max speed (16x) which I'm wondering if that my have a part in the failed tests. I've burned other distros at that speed and only 1 other CD (Ubuntu 6.10 i386) was corrupt which was successful on the second burn.

So here I am trying to install Fedora just to see if it might work out ok, but it won't load anaconda. Is the whole problem my burning speed? Or am I getting paranoid?

BTW, how do the CDs check fidelity?

Only pre-made distributions worth using (unless you get into niches): Debian, Gentoo, Slackware.

At the moment, I'm running low on CD-Rs (3 left, YIKES!). I decided to go to CentOS which I already had laying around.

Fedora will get a different day I guess.

reisio: This is a case where I need a Red Hat like system. Fedora and CentOS were my choices.

Ah. I'd go with CentOS, then.

Is it possible your burner's getting old or dirty inside? 16x does seem a little slow.

My burner is rather old, it was never faster than 16x.

Since you say you've burned other distributions, I assume this question is moot: Did you burn the CDs as images or as regular files? If you burned them as regular files they won't work.

I assume you know this, just thought I would ask.

Strangely, this sound similar to a problem I'm having with Ubuntu, but I could be wrong, and I haven't got anywhere in trying to find a solution.

Some distros offer the chance to check the files on the CD before you try and install from them, have you done this?

I know this is sort of changing the topic, but...

So now I'm running CentOS without a desktop environment (so I can better learn the shell). I installed Webmin and now I can't access it though the network. I installed Lynx (with a little difficulty) to see if I can access it locally. I can access it locally but not through the network. I tried allowing the Webmin port (10000) in iptables as directed on the Webmin website. I even opened the port in the router to see if that would help; nothing.

Any help?

Got it figured out... last rule in the iptables rejected everything, just had to remove it.
