Okay, I have a really huge favour to ask of any moderator that has the time... I've posted recently under this user name and used links to my current website in those posts, forgetting how easy it is for certain people to track me down through this user name (google it and everything there is mine except for some Everquest thing). Problem is that it's obviously been too long for me to edit the posts myself, so if any moderators have the time or will, do you think you'd be able to edit out the links to my website for me? It would be very much appreciated, thank you. And I have made another user account so I promise I won't be stupid enough to do it again! The posts are:

Thanks again in advance! (and sorry again)

Huh. Too old for even me to edit it, too. Well.

May I ask, why is it bad that people find your website? I don't quite understand that one.

Ah, thanks anyway. It's not everyone finding my site, just a couple of ex-friends I'd rather avoid. The stalky type that visit your site everyday then talk about it on their site or to each other. One in particular has been doing it to one of her ex-friends for about three and a half years now. It's just some childish stuff I'd prefer not to become re-involved in, but it's no big deal. As long as I don't know they're visiting my site, I don't care :-)

By the way, I went to your site recently and read the post about the sexual hat trick... You poor thing :-P

If you find people you don't want visiting your site, there are simple things you can do.

1) don't care
2) block the IP

Hehe, I definitely like number one :-)

Does number two actually work? How do you do something like that?

The most common way to deny specific IPs from accessing your site is to use a .htaccess file.

http://www.easywebtutorials.com/tutorials/htaccess.html
Scroll down to the bottom of the page to see an example.

Nonetheless, you should keep in mind that the people you don't want visiting your site probably have their ip changed every 2-3 days, so this is quite useless.

Best solution is 1)

Ah, yes, I did think that blocking was somewhat useless. Number one it is then Although I might still consider number two as a precautionary measure...

While I'm asking things, can anyone recommend a good PHP tutorial? I've been through several and I get stuck at different points during each. It's most likely my own brain, but it's handy to have lots of useful tutorials for the next time I get stuck.

PHP's not too difficult to learn if you know any other programming languages. Its fairly easy to do stuff... the majority of it's just fetching stuff from a SQL database and printing it out to the screen.

Variables don't have types, they're ambiguous.

$i = 12;
$i = "Hey there"

Won't make errors... ...for loops/while loops are all the same.

mysql_connect(server, username, password)
$result = mysql_query(query goes here)
mysql_close();

mysql_result($result, $result_number, $field_name);

echo prints stuff...

thats all I use anyways.

Ah, well I don't know any programming languages. I've learnt HTML and CSS, and now I want to expand. I've heard PHP is the easiest to learn, so I'm starting there. I mostly just want to create pages where I can upload images, text, etc. and customise it, but I want to write it all myself and have complete control over the whole thing.

ie. I want to be lazy, but self-sufficient

Unfortunately, when I do attempt some more "complicated" stuff, it never works for me

http://www.gurusnetwork.com/tutorials/coding/php/

several of the tutorials here are what gave me my start with PHP.
The two 'template' tutorials are a great basic intro, and the PHP/MySQL by DmS is a great opening as well.

Cheers! I can't wait to get started again (when I'm not sitting here neglecting my work by typing stuff here )

And on that note, I should probably do exactly what I said I would earlier... Use my new account!

Thanks for your help everyone!
