So... it's not kryptonite...

Read this yesterday.

The whole thing is pretty silly anyway, seeing as they're talking about the fact that it matches what somebody made up for the most recent movie as the chemical properties (as viewed on a museum label for a moment), and not any longstanding formula, or any of the properties, or any other such thing.

Kind of a "oh. ok"

For a substantial period of time after Kryptonite was introduced to the Superman radio series (in 1943, partly to give the actor, Bud Collyer, the chance of a break once in a while), I think it was generally accepted that Kryptonite was an element, formed during the destruction of Superman's home planet, Krypton.

Oddly enough, in its first appearance in the comic series (1949) Kryptonite was red.

There's a whole ton more that I could go on (and on) about on Kryptonite, but I must say that through many, many pages of research, I have found no canonical source of data on the actual make-up of Superman's "Archilles'-heel".

Suffice it to say that I'm not the only person around who considers the label in the movie just a little silly. I'll be honest - I thought the whole film was pretty-much crap, but that's beside the point...

For the sake of argument, I think it best to imagine that the label on the case in the film is a best-guess at the constituent elements in an otherwise unidentifiable rock by an inept or lazy geologist... perhaps... and the Kryptonite 'element' may well have been overlooked, or left unindentified.

So there, and na-na-nanana, etc...

According to Wikipedia, there are 15 different forms of Kryptonite. One of them is pink Kryptonite, which apparently turns Kryptonians gay.

Now all we need to do is find an actual Kryptonian to test this...

of course, any attempt at serious discussion of something like kriptonite assumes that superman was not the lamest attempt at character creation ever in the first place...so.........

Can't really argue you with you there. Superman was always my least favorite superhero. I mean, let's face it: Superman was kind of a prick.

And something has definitely gone wrong on the drawing board when the character's only real weakness is externalized.
