Man I'll tell ya I just don't get it anymore. Who are these people who come up with these notions that something like this would be a good thing to do? Are they human.... maybe the missing link.... or does Tennessee say it all.

One can only hope they were pissed out of their minds because if they weren't they should be institutionalized and fed soft food through a tube.... studied and monitored for the rest of their lives....as 'curiosities of the 21 century.'

If the bunch of them are fired I don't know what they will do for work. I mean can you imagine anybody hiring them?

...don't know what else to say. I hope whoever was in charge loses their job for this at least...

I can see maybe having a drill (although you have to wonder about even that, in light of recent events), but the students should have been told beforehand. That way it could have been more like a "here's what you should do in this sort of situation" experience rather than a "hey, let's emotionally and psychologically scar these kids, possibly for life" experience.

I saw the principal of the school deliver her prepared statement and man I felt sorry for her. I could be completely wrong but it seemed as if she was saying... I don't fucking believe it either.

I'm still dumb-struck with this one... or maybe it's the accumulative effect of clearly stupid stupid decisions of late, made by people in positions of authority.

We can only hope they were pissed out of their ever-luvin minds.

There was a similar 'drill' late last year. No warnings. Kids peeing their pants, etc...

Got to love the new Amerika. These kids are being institutionalized and desensitized to accept these sort of things, as well as mass surveillance (cameras in school bathrooms), armed private security, tazings of 8yos , RFID identification cards. When they get out of school, they will see this as the norm and will not fight it when it is implemented in the rest of society.

It's 2007 and I'm still trying to cope with my country electing Bush in 2004 (during two wars [three if you count the war on personal liberty]) because of his stance on gay marriage.



I'll start getting upset about this sort of activity, I think, in 2009. Or so.

As for the rest of it - what's new? Hasn't it all been heading this way for a while? I'm surprised America's citizens aren't openly 'chipped' at birth - we're not so far behind in the UK, either - but I'm not surprised that this sort of thing is going on. Not being American, I suffer from the International impression of America as the sort of place where stuff like this happens frequently, anyway... :P

If I'm not mistaken I believe you Brits are the most heavily survieled (sp?)people in the world...talking about cameras specifically.

And tho' we hear considerably more about the US Patriot Act I'm almost certain the Canadian equivalent is far more onerous and till very recently so too the British equivalent. I can't recall the case but I do remember a British court ruling the British version violated certain rights.

I accept the premise that certain security issues must be - upgraded, if you will, but I take great exception to the mantra: "If you've got nothing to hide...." That just may well be the most dangerous thought ever. (Not referring to you WhiteH)

The good news is that I, and many like me, have awoken. Although, not sure my vote counts anyway now, so not sure if I will even bother in '08.

Not yet my friend, not yet. In the 80s it was still in the realm of dystopian science fiction. In 1990s, people who believed this were "right-wing conspiracy theorists." Nowadays it is pretty much an accepted fact that it is coming. The next logical step in what some call the global economy, and other the global control grid, global plantation, etc. The question is whether the people will accept it.

Quite scary to think about the kids today in the public school systems being indoctrinated into it, the fact that many of them see nothing wrong with it and the fact that they will soon be voters. 20 years from now, people like me and any of you against it will still hate it, but these kids will really have never known anything but.

As far as UK not being far behind America, there is now approx. 1 camera per every 14 people in the UK, and some of them even verbally reprimand you. So nyah, you are, as NoJive said, the most surveilled people on earth, at least in terms of visible surveillance. We are not too far behind though, not at all. One should note that all three countries mentioned above, and quite a few others, are all dealing with the same issues, all being implemented upon a single model, or so it would seem. If you read the actual legislation from these different countries, they are all eerily similar.

And another drill. This time, only teachers, but again, no word that it was a drill. This is the implementation of mass hypnosis and brainwashing through what our military likes to call "shock and awe." Whether there is some devious plot (doubtful) in the background or simply a form of controlled chaos, matters not. If you can instill fear in a people, especially a people who have been systematically downgraded in intelligence, there is nothing they will not accept by those who might capitalize upon it, except perhaps the truth.

Heehee - spot on! Britain is the most camera-saturated country in the world... and yet they still do nothing for crime!

On the other hand, certain authorities are making a bomb out of motorists. o.O

I suppose at least, that the whole scheme is openly implemented. A camera that shouts at you, for instance, is hardly secretive.

...and this brings me to declare my support of hoodie-banning in shopping centres ('malls'), etc. What's the point in catching a scumbag on camera if all you can determine is that he wears Nike hoodies?

I am still trying to recover from the Bush years, and the incredibly dense fog of stupidity that a majority of Americans managed to have and apparently are still having regarding his regime, politics...heck, the whole thing.

I want Gonzales gone, and an Attorney General in there, who hates Bush. Time to do some digging.

What was it that Obi Wan said in Episode 3? Something about some of the worst crimes coming from some of the best intentions. I agree. A good thought at getting kids to learn how to protect themselves in case a shooter comes in after them. Bad exectuion.
