Topic: help with an effect (Page 1 of 1)

See the gradient or the lighter portion at the top of the title bar? How it curves slightly and it seems to be an overlay or something?

Can someone give me some tips on how to do this in PS? I've tried to use the pen tool and then use the gradient tool, lower the opacity on it but it doesn't look right.

It looks like from that pic that it is beveled somewhat.

I've tried to use the "Layer Styles" with the Gradient Overlay but this does it just as a straight line and no curve.

I just need to make a small rectangle with this effect.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

looks like either 1) a radial gradient or 2) 2 seperate gradients (horizontal and vertical)

Is this what you're looking for? That's a very exaggerated version of what I think you're looking at (and lop-sided).

On the odd chance that is it, here's the layers dialog for that one. (This is in GIMP, not PS, so I'm not sure how it translates exactly). I can try and describe it, but I'm sure I've already stuck my foot in my mouth just by posting in the PS forum at all

Anyways, I hope that helps (even just to serve as an example of what you're not looking for).

Bevel & Emboss (Layer Styles) a curve, then crop it to a rectangle.

I was mostly wondering how to get *that* type of gradient ( or whatever ) in a curve like that.

Using the pen tool and then using a gradient just doesn't seem to be cutting the cake.

It must be a gimp thing but a lot of the KDE themes and such have a nice frosty glass look to them while being transparent. Nice effect but my PS skills are going downhill fast.

I'm not sure which "curve" you're talking about (curve of the gradient, or curved line separating the gradient from the background), but the gradient I used was just from foreground color to background color, half left to right, half right to left. The curved line was from selecting an ellipse (well outside the bounds of the canvas) and clearing the gradient layer outside the ellipse.

Either of those even coming close to what you're looking for?
