Have a look at http://www.milkandcookies.com/link/66481/detail/ - it shows a just published method of image resizing
that gives some amazing results.

Though I'm sure they selected 'suitable' images for the video, it still looks ery very very cool.

Don't have the time to read the original paper right now, but if I don't post it, I'll forget all about it .

What can we believe?

Saw it yesterday. The technique is brilliant to the point of being so simple I wonder how noone did that before.

Could be nice to have in browsers and enable it using a CSS proprety.

That is very cool stuff. Don't know what else to say. Have watched it half a dozen times now.

Coolest thing I've seen in a long time

Technically it is jaw-droppingly amazing. Aesthetically it is a nightmare. Composition goes completely out the window with this. Photos are not just about the subjects or prominent features, they are also about blank and negative space. By removing that space, you throw off the balance of a photograph. What might have started out as a beautiful photograph may end up as something that just looks "off."

That being said, I can see how this might be useful in certain instances. I would never use it on my photos, though.

Indeed photographers don't like people, let alone machines, altering their babies. That's why I'd to have that as a custom CSS property than web authors can turn on by default on the images of their choice. Users could turn that on in their browser setting or contextual menu if they want.
