I am in need of some suggestions for either a service or software that will allow desktop remote support as in control end users computer.

I can save myself a LOT of time if I can just remote into our clients computers to fix certain issues instead of driving 1.5 - 2 hrs out to click a few buttons.

I have looked into WebEx but it's pretty pricey. I need it to work on all platforms (Linux not so much, mostly just Windows and Mac).

Any suggestion or something that you have used that is good or bad?

Thanks in advance!

Well, it's going to be a bit more complicated than that. These will not be employees, just customers that I will have to remote control their computer *maybe* once a year. Most of the customers that we have don't have an IT staff and not much of a network. So asking them to "forward ports" I might as well be speaking Chinese to them

I need something like WebEx but cheaper LOL

Windows should have 'Remote Assistance' somewhere in the Accessories menu.

Not sure about Mac OS.

I make use of lomein.com quite a bit. It's free for personal use, but for full functionality (file transfers, local printing and mounting of remote drives, etc) and variations on the service, pricing varies.

They have one service called LogMeIn Rescue which is pretty versatile - the client uses a six digit code via a URL you send them, and a temporary download gives you chat/RDP with them, leaving nothing behind once the session is complete. Last I checked, it was $99 a month (annual agreement) per technician seat.

Most of their services are qite a bit cheaper than that.

LogMeIn.com

EDIT: On second thought, I don't know if this will support Linux... but then, Window's Remote Assistance won't either, will it? :P

LogMeIn is great. My past employer uses it extensively. I've now seen some vendors start to use it as well.

I'd love to say that, since I manage upwards of 80 servers, none of which are anywhere remotely near me, I've got the perfect solution for you, but I don't. Linux servers, sshj to a text console. If you decide you want to try VNC, be careful of the security implications and choose your passwords and your ports wisely. Actually, that's pretty much the case with any of the solutions, and should be with anything that allows remote connectivity and control like this.
