This week the subject is open, whatever takes your fancy. So carry that camera with you and get those creative musings digitised for the amusement, if not edification, of all our residents, even those in the North Tower.

This might also be a good opportunity to publish that great photo which did not fit into previous topics. Or the reason you needed to go running amok in the park with a camera.
Good luck.

Heh, and I seem to remember you do an excellent amok Master Suho.

Can you guess what it is yet?

OK... maybe this is not quite my best amok, but I figured I'd start around the house before I wreaked havoc on the outside world...

Well, that's a new slant on the complaint that children today eat nothing but crap.

Thanks for adding those DL-44. Gold and silver medals too! She must really enjoy it as well as being proficient, I know they don't give medals and belts away very easily in that sport. I think in Ju-Jitsu we used to call that style of kick a roundhouse kick, it feels great when you execute it properly.
How did the testing for the second degree Black Belt go? I did not catch that in any of the comments I read.

Suho, what a lovely chess set, you've reminded me that I have one somewhere that I haven't unpacked yet from my last move, I'll have to go and dig it out. Is that a glass base that it is sitting on too?

Suho - Yeah, the girl is tall these days! =) (about 5'6" and counting...about ready to turn 14...)
And she's a vegetarian...so there's a good chance there is some extra fertilizer in her diet

Tao - yes, she enjoys it a great deal, and has done a great deal of competition over the last couple of years, with very good results over all. Every now and then I have to stop and say 'dear god, what am I doing??' but... you can't argue with what it has done for her, and I am not afraid of what will happen with bullies....

That kick in the photo is her spin-hook kick, striking with the heal. The return kick for the lower board, striking with the ball of the foot was the round (or roundhouse) kick.

The last photo in that series shows her new 2nd degree belt being tied on (by Grand Master Park, which is quite an honor). The test went great =)
The 'test' is really almost a formality - the 8 hour session with the review board (and no spectators or parents allowed...) a couple of months before hand is the *real* test.

As for chess... I have a couple of decent sets around, but I haven't played in *years*. I fear my skills are laughable at this point...

Tao: Yep, that's a glass base as well. I've had this chess set for years--I brought it with me when I first came to Korea, but I never had the room to set it up. I was so excited to be able to set it up when we moved into our new place.

As for my skills... well, let's just say I won't be entering too many tournaments.

Unfortunately not. It's been years since the school has done a Korea trip, and it doesn't look like they'll be doing so any time soon. Her instructor, Grand Master Turgeon did visit last year, but that was as part of the USAT team competing in the first World Poomsae competition, and he didn't bring any students along.

Well, that's disappointing.

I guess we'll have to drop by next time we hit the States.

(An interesting side note: one of my fellow professors here is an avid TKD practitioner. He teaches it here and at one point won a medal (I think it might have been gold, but I'm not sure) as a representative of the U.S. at an international competition. I don't know the details, but next time we get together for a drink I'll have to ask him about it.)

I bought 3 roses a week ago with the intention of shooting some pictures of them ... but well ... the mood kinda passed over and so the flowers were left in the vase to dry ...

Today I started throwing them away but one of them caught my eye ... so I took a few pictures

Shall we keep rolling with this one or is it time to choose another POW? Decisions, decisions. Well, I suppose this week has lasted nearly a month, but I don't like making decisions on a Tuesday, so!
I'll wait another ten hours or so then make the announcement, whadaya say?

Thank you SleepingWolf, when I first loaded up a photo of a snail and a slug from the camera to the computer I was amazed at the beautiful detail on them both. This led to even more wonderful information about their lifestyles. Did you know that a snail can be left or right handed? The Great Grey Garden Slug, which I think is the one in the photo, has a very interesting sex life. Imagine getting it on while dangling from a bungee cord covered in slime OK Ok stop imagining now, you'll go blind like that.
More slug porn here

Hey, since you're here how do you fancy choosing the next topic SleepingWolf?

I've just dug deeper into that ^ site about slugs, crikey! From "Snails in Poetry" to "Pliny on Snails" It's all here
Btw That Pliny fellah just gets everywhere doesn't he?

Well if it's not too late I'd like to throw up a couple of films I've recently had developed.

Taken from my Lomo LCA using 100 ASA slide film.

I don't really know what I'm doing with this camera, I find the shots come out quite grainy, and more often than not quite blurred. Slide film seems quite fun though.

Nice shots Blaise you've inspired me to experiment with obtaining a similar Lomo effect through Photoshop. I'll post them up if any turn out half decent.
What method did you use to convert the slide film to jpeg if any? I'm presuming you have done this but I have not used a Lomo camera so it's a process I'm not used to.
