Symptomps: Sporrading loss of eclipse-accepting-arrow-keys (but still takes pretty much everything else, including ctrl+arrows and shift+arrows, and arrows work in other apps),

and unable to switch windows with the mouse
(and if I click the active window, it looses focus, and nothing has focus anymore!).
Wild alt-tabbing, banging the keyboard, etc. removes the problem for a second.

Hm. maybe the problem is the keyboard?

Does anybody have any ideas?
Wild process-killing didn't help.

This sounds like a fine example of windows gone sour. Usually I'd suggest restarting the computer but I assume you have tried that already? If you are suspecting the keyboard then try stealing your neighbour's keyboard

Sometimes unplugging & reconnecting the usb cable helps with such things... might try that with the mouse's cable as well as the two tend to form strange connections over time.

What about returning to a Restore Point before the PC started acting up?

Have you tried that?

Also, try a different keyboard

restore point is a good idea.
I mean, there were a couple of updates recently... maybe... I'll give it a try.
It has sparred me for the last few hours, though.

(I have already scanned for viruses and rootkits - not to mention that there's a sophos running here all day long).

thanks!

That usually means an important function key like CTRL, ALT, SHIFT is sticking. Might be time to clean your keyboard, or replace it. My bro got a bunch of new MS Naturals off ebay.
