I decided to make my life a little easier and instead of developing something new myself I decided to start using Gallery2 instead of what I used to have.
Many reasons:
1) I'm lazy.
2) I want to upload more stuff and having everything on the same page just gets a little cramped after a while.
3) Everything else I considered/tried was either too complicated or needed too much work to make it 'look right'.

I didn't design anything so it's not the regular kind of site review that I'm looking for.
Just tell me if it's better or worse than what I used to have and what would you change if it was your site. Thanks.

OK just remember I'm the old and slow guy so I likely missed something very obvious.

On the new site, how do you actually view one of your images ?

On the front page I clicked 'computer Graphics' and followed that specific image. FIVE clicks later no full image...nothing but thumbnails.

Is it just a mock up or have I missed something?

just try another image ... i uploaded some small ones by mistake ... and am going to replace them as soon as I can get to it.

btw you said "FIVE" ... do you think I should eliminate the "photography" and "Computer Graphics" layer then? ... or maybe you have other ideas?

It took me between three and four clicks to reach actual images, depending on how deep the hierarchy was at that point. The photography section seems to be the most neatly organized, but the computer graphics section looks a little less organized. That is, at some levels of the hierarchy you can click on a thumbnail and get an image, but there are other thumbnails that lead to another level of thumbnails--like in the "Photoshop" section. If you wanted to make things nice and neat, you could have "PS Pong" and then "Other Photoshop." That would, of course, be adding more levels to the hierarchy. You could, alternatively, remove levels by having "Computer Graphics" just lead to three thumbnails: Other/Unsorted, PS Pong, and Other Photoshop.

I dunno... just some thoughts. It's not so much the clicks that niggle at me as it is the uneven hierarchy.

I made a few changes .... moved pspong to cg and changed the maximum number of images on a page from 16 to 64 ... also I removed dates and view counters that in my opinion just needlessly cluttered the site

btw there's an icon that looks like an open book under each item that indicates whether an item is a gallery

there are only 2 items on main page right now but this is going to change ... because I want to put more stuff than just photos and cg on the site

but please tell me if there's anything else that bothers you ...

Yeah, I saw it, and I was able to figure out the system. It just looked cluttered, that's all. Not neat and tidy.
