Topic: CS2 Colours way off on new Monitor (Page 1 of 1)

Since Photoshop 4 I've had 6 or 7 different monitors without any color management problems.

I just bought a new Samsung 24" monitor and the colours in CS are completely off. I don't use Adobe Gamma (it is disabled and always has been on all my systems).

The colours on my photos are bang on when I browse, when I use Windows Picture and Fax Viewer etc. so this is not a monitor calibration issue, it's a CS2 issue.

Photoshop is displaying yellow skies instead of blue skies for example. I can't get black and white by desaturating, all I get is this yellow/sepia crap.

Any help would be appreciated. All my google searches have been fruitless.

Well it's worth a try don't ya think?

I tried a 22 inch monitor a while back but returned it because of a gradient top and bottom. Darker at top of screen. Prints with much fiddling came out ok but it was a complete pain. The gradient is apparently something of an inherant problem with LCD's.

NJ: if it was the monitor, all applications would have artefacts or improper colour balance. In my case, it is only CS2.

It could very well be a "this monitor and CS2" issue

Don't want to send you on endless chase but there seems to be quite a bit on the topic when you google

reinstall ps? I remember this working for someone here before.

The problem with Adobe Gamma is that it asks lots of questions for which I don't have the answers.
For example, what kind of phosphers etc.
But I'll give it a try.

No luck...all it did was impact the gamma, nothing for the colors.

Fixed the problem and discovered two excellent free tools in the process.

Used QuickMonitor Profile to fix the ICM:

I've had what sounds like a very similar problem to yours for months now see -> Setting up a new flatscreen monitor and Photoshop Colour Settings
My colours inside PS CS3 and ACR were just, well horrible. Blocky, like the type of effect you sometimes get with a 256 colour display. I tried so many things as you have with no positive result..
So I read your thread with interest and tried the "Quick Monitor" you linked to and Bish Bash Bosh for the first time EVER with this monitor the colour in my images and Photographs in CS3 look normal. I am SO delighted I can't stop using CAPS!

Honestly....
I felt like I was in that "Outer Limits" episode, were a fellah wakes up one morning and everything seems normal apart from people using the odd word incorrectly, saying, perhaps "elephant" instead of "coffee" in a sentence. ""Have a cup of elephant my dear" As time passes this happens with increasing frequency until he can no longer understand what anyone is saying. It is all English but "not as she should be spoken".
Anyone remember that one?
ANNnnyway, I digress.
Once again thank you, you have solved a long standing problem of mine with my beloved Photoshop.
My sword is yours to command.

The best solutions are often the simplest. This tool is amazing and you can't beat the price.

When I have some idle time over the holidays I'm going to print out the Help Files and calibrate the color and gamma again, just to see the results, but for now I'm a very happy camper!

Thankfully I did not have any gradients nor dead pixels. I did find some excellent test sites for that purpose.

This software will not fix defects though.
