Topic: Sending SMS/MMS from a website

I'm looking into this for my work, but such a thing actually interests me. I think it will be interesting to have such a capability on a website.

So anyway, they asked me to assess the cost and time of implement such a thing. I don't know how many of you have experience/knowledge in this area, but I like to come back here for things like this.

So far, I found many ways of doing it, but I narrowed it to two options.

• Use a SMS/MMS gateway over the internet
• Make our own gateway using a GSM/GPRS modem along with Now SMS

If we go with a modem, I've been looking at the Falcom SAMBA 75 Quad Band GSM/GPRS USB Modem.

I couldn't find how much Now SMS costs on their website. Perhaps I need to contact them.

I never worked with such setups, so if anyone can give me any help, it will be appreciated.

SMS messages are just small emails. If your number is 720-555-5555 and use T-Mobile, your SMS email address is 7205555555@tmomail.net.

I know with my AT&T, it puts a bunch of other information in the text like the from email and such. I need to make sure that nobody is left out, I don't think I can guarantee this using this method.

I found a SMS gateway for about $0.04 a message. I don't know about MMS though. But I don't need to find a service with MMS at this time.

i coded a website that allows users to send sms before.

for that, the best thing for us was to buy sms credits and webservice from providers such as:

http://www.clickatell.com
or
http://www.smsxchange.com
etc...

After that you get a username/password and credits + API (http post/http get/web service/send email/etc...) showing you how to programmatically send SMS from your code (/website).

I've decided to go with Clickatell. Good prices and I already tried it with the 10 free credits they give you when you sign up. It was very simple and fast, I was amazed when I got the text message within a few seconds of sending it.
