The Asylum logo looks awful recently on my monitor. I checked the logo's "element properties" to find that it is now a JPG. Is that right I've always thought it was, and should be, a GIF. If you click on the image you will see how it appears to me.

Has somebody been altering my medication?

That is odd.

Looks right on my monitor.

Your screenshot, however, looks somehow "blue" around the logo to me.

I have an old tube monitor, however. Are you using a flat screen, TFT monitor, Tao?

Have you actually taken a look at the color with the color tool in PS to see what it is reporting back? It should be the same color as the background of the Asylum (which is actually a deep blue color).

My computer crashed last night and after some head scratching I reinstalled my nvidea driver and the computer booted as normal. Before this it hung on "Starting Windows".
I'm using a flat monitor called "V7 Video Seven L23 1AS" I have had a problem like this before too and solved that by setting a new colour profile with a rather good free software I'll have to do a search here and find out what that software was called.

This is what my colour picker in PS looks like ARAGGHHH. Thanks for the tip WS

Well I'm getting there.
I found the monitor calibration software I used a while back to fix the problem I had then. It has certainly helped but we're still not there yet.
The Asylum logo background now does not stand out the way it did earlier but when In try to take a screen-shot and paste in into PS to show here It still looks weird like and 8 bit image. Perhaps if I run the tests again I'll get a better optimization.
The software I'm talking about is "Quick Gamma" and "Quick Monitor Profile".

So now the screen is OK to browse the net with but I have no confidence with it editing images. 'Tis late now I shall attempt a better solution on the morrow. This monitor has given me a lot of problems, next time I'm definitely paying the extra few quid for a quality monitor.

Lesson learned.

Oh yeah, not sure but I don't think the about:config made any difference, outcydr. Mine was set to "2" I changed it to "0" but did not notice a difference. Having said that perhaps a reboot may be needed between each fiddly-tweak.

Honestly....Sometimes I feel as if I'm messing about with Merlin's spell book with only the slightest clue as to what my dabbling will produce

Many, most, tweaks in Firefox's about:config require to restart Firefox. Does the logo look funky in other browsers or applications ?

The three browsers I have on this box are Firefox 3.5.2, Opera 10:00 and IE 8
I have just re-tested outcydr's suggestion, with a restart and it worked like a charm. The Asylum and it's logo are looking beautiful again, thanks outcydr

The logo itself looks best in Opera but I have to say the whole Asylum site I think looks better in IE because it is the only browser that shows the nice Asylum scroll bar.

The monitor itself still feels out of whack. My colour picker looks the same as the example I posted. I'm now going to reset everything, re-install drivers for the video card (NVidia GeForce 6200) and the monitor itself. Then I'm going to run "Quick Gamma" again and hopefull, fingers crossed, clutching my touchstone the colour profile on this monitor will be usuable in Photoshop.

Having said that I've had the largest positive response to a photograph I've received in a long time with using this sometimes crappy monitor.

So...still not completely happy with the monitors settings but I think I'm getting there.
I think it was White Hawk who first linked me up with Monitor Calibration Wizard which so far has been the most helpful to me.

Thanks NoJive, I wasn't sure if it was you or perhaps Sleeping Wolf who posted up a link in their own thread about monitors. I'm sure I remember downloading a calibrating software which sorted my monitor out in a jiffy.

I'll give calibrize a run out later to-day, cheers.

edit: As far as I can remember, I fixed my monitor using the default settings and hitting the Create button. If that doesn't work, RTFM.
