Just to-day both the browsers I've been using have started to behave very strangly.
It started with Firefox, I found I could not download anything videos mp3's or even right click on images and "save as". Every time I tried the browser would crash and close. So I disabled and eventually uninstalled every add-on but the fault remained. I then tried the IE and it also behaved in the very same way
I decided to completely uninstall Firefox and then re-install. Before I did this I wanted to save my current bookmarks as a HTML file for future use but firefox would not allow this, it just kept on crashing every time I tried. Same thing with IE
I tried to download a fresh copy of FF version 3.6.6. in both FF and IE but neither of the browsers can download they just keep on crashing.
I'm running Windows 7, 64bit on this machine all up to date. I'm at a loss at the moment as to what to try next to solve the problem. I have run virus check and malware checks with Avast and AdAware.

Any thoughts on what measures I can take to solve this? Indeed what is it that is happening?
Cheers

Well Tao.
Have you tried turning it off and back on again?

~Grumph~

Ok then, how about restoring your computer to an earlier time using system restore?

~Grrumph~

Thank you spirit of Taobaybee, that seems to have done the trick. The only software I had installed in the last week or two was HTC's Sync manager. I've disabled it now so....fingers crossed foxy seems to be behaving.

This place rocks.

Use Chrome

Also, next time try safemode with networking when booting up and disable all startup items using msconfig.

I hope it wasn't HTC Sync causing any problems, I have it installed on a couple of machines and I have no problems with my browsers, so perhaps it was something else that caused the issue?

Great troubleshooting, Tao!

I could be wrong Blaise but I'm fairly certain that was the only change I had made to my system in that two week period. Of course something else may have happened I just can't think what..
Have you installed the latest HTC Sync Manager on a Windows 7 64bit machine? If you have then it points toward something else that may have affected my system. Still I've now run quite a few checks with Anti-virus and Malware in mind and my system now checks clean.

I've also checked the HTC forums and no-one has reported a problem there.
Ah well, all's well that ends well.
Thanks WS

Yes, I do run HTC Sync on a Win 7 64bit machine.

Glad you got things working again though, to be honest I only ever used HTC Sync to upgrade my HTC Hero before they started rolling out over the air updates, I can't see a use for it now.

Same here Blaise, I had a flurry of downloading everything to do with HTC and Android, but now that I have already transferred all my contacts using My Phone Explorer I don't really have any use for it so.

You can try to use other browers, such as Chrome.
