Ok, stupid title but here's the deal, I have a client that's shown interest in wanting to create a specific type of online dating website that is low cost (to members), that allows a lot of control over content. I've googled quite a few but nothing really stood out to me that made me say "Wow, that's it!"

Just wondering if any of the lunatics here have had any experience with building an online dating site or similar social networking site. I'm not trying to re-create facebook or match.com either, it doesn't even need to be super fancy, i just would like it to look nice and be customizable.

Thanks guys.

Check this out: http://mingle2.com/blog/view/how-i-built-mingle2

It's written by Matthew Inman who built mingle2.com, a dating site, in only 66 hours. It's definitely worth a read, even though it's a couple years old.

Incredible read! I've contacted them about the possibility of a partnership for a private site. I was also trying to look around for some open source code that would allow something simple.

Thanks twitch.
