So, I've come to the conclusion that apps are used for developing and programs are all-in-ones.

Good example of a program are the GNU software collection, Office suites, bundles, IDEs. Good example of an app is hard to find. I can't come across any that are stand-alone aside from Photoshop being in CS. So, programs intermix with each other while apps just serve one function. Gimp is an example of a stand-alone... so is Inkscape.

Do any of you know any stand-alone apps that is quite useful for day to day production?

...and I never heard of a differences between an application and a program. They both designate a bunch of code that is compiled and she run serves a purpose.

A bunch of programs working together are usually part of a suite.

Just my two cents...
