The IBC started as a simple suggestion on the 23rd of October, 2002...
To take 5 members from different forums or boards, that were voted to a team by their peers, to compete in a graphics competition with specific themes and guidelines....
The winner being decided through a voting process on each competing forum.
It all started here...
Things progressed...
The Rules and Guidelines were layed out by the folks over at PSD.it as such:
0. Foreword
0.1 What IBC stand for?
IBC stand for International Board Competition.
This competition is intended for sharing experiences, different point of views, different methods on using Photoshop between International Forums.
1. General Rules
1.1 Challenge Launching
The Forum that launch the challenge will decide the Assignment.
The Challenge Assignment is the guideline on how to produce the final image: dimensions, size, topic, methods and votation time limits.
There can be also some limits, i.e. "the image must be primarily red", or "only one photo can be imported".
That Forum launch the challenge by submitting a message in the other forums.
1.2 Forum team
Each one of the forum interested in joining the Competition will answer
positively to that message and will manage a team of 5 people.
The whole forum can discuss about ideas and ways to proceed but only the 5 people team is in charge of creating the final image to be submitted.
One of the 5 people must be the reference point to be contacted by the
Competition organizers. This man will be the Captain.
1.3 Image submission
The Organizer Forum will host a thread, in its board, named as the Competition, with the Challenge Assignments and a list of the Player Forums.
Each Player Forum will host a thread, named as the Competition, with a link to the above thread.
1.3.1 How to submit
When an image to be submitted is ready, the Captain will place it somewhere on the net, and he will send to the Challenge organizers the URL of it.
The Challenge organizers will place the URL in the Challenge thread.
1.4 Voting
1.4.1 Start
When all the images are ready, the votes can start.
The beginning of the voting phase is declared on each forum Challenge thread.
1.4.2 How to vote
Any member of each forum will vote on his own board.
A valid vote shall indicate a first place (the favourite image), a second and a third place.
Comments, critiques and reasons on votes are welcome, but not mandatory.
1.4.3 What it's not allowed?
It is NOT allowed:
- any vote for the image of the board where you vote.
I.e. You're voting on PSD.it board, and you write: 1.Ozone, 2.PSD, 3.
SomethingLeet
- any vote that declare more than an image for any position.
I.e. You're writing: 1.PSD and Ozone, 2.GurusNetwork
- any vote that does not indicate three names.
I.e. You're writing: 1.GurusNetwork
- any vote coming from members with less than 20 messages in that
board.
All invalid votes will be erased.
1.5 Points
In the end of the votation period, each forum will count 5 points for every first place, 3 points for every 2nd place and 1 point for every third place.
The final count will pop-up one image as first classified in that forum, an
image as second and another as third.
1.6 Final classification
At this point, the Challenge organizer will summarize each final forum
classification and will assign the same score to that resulting in the final
IBC winner.
In case of parity, the ratio between first places and number of votes will
decide for the winner. In case of another parity, the ratio between the second places and the votes will decide. The third places ratio will be the last chance to decide for a winner.
------------------------ While this Competition/Idea is still in its infancy, I'm sure there will be some modifications to the rules... but these are, as stated, what we began with.
