How do I increase traffic to my site?

Don't believe the hype - there are no quick fixes. You might get lucky with something that spreads virally but it usually involves some hard work and research. A broad approach will probably lead to the best results.

The first step is to optimise your site for search engines

Then submit them to the free-to-submit search engines (it helps if you are non-commercial or ou may end up paying).

Research the area your site is focused on and see if other relevant sites will link to you (often in return for a link back).

Look into Wikis (like this one) they are now a widely spread phenomena and allow people to edit web pages and add content - if your site is good then this is a win-win situation.
