why don't you tell everybody how you set up your proxy and your network?

simple:
-get two network cards put them in the boxes connect with an crossover utp cable
-Let windows detect the two cards and
-in the network config let tcp/ip work with the two network cards.
-give both cards ip adress Like 90.0.0.1 for comp1 and 90.0.0.2 for comp2 and a subnetmask like 255.255.255.0 for both
-test with ping in dos box (ping 90.0.0.1/2)
Install winproxy

On the client machine:
go to tcp/ip properties in the network config.
goto gateway give ip number from other machine and press add press ok
goto Dns make host (name comp1) give ip adress from comp1 press ok
reboot.
goto webbrowser tell it to use proxy on the ip adress from other comp port 80.

on the proxy machine:
-install the winproxy program.
-follow the quick start manual.

That's it

and do not forget in the browsers:

the asylum should better not go through the proxy.

do you have to open ports for other stuff, too?

e.g. 25 for SMTP and 21 for FTP

In winproxy there are checkboxes on the protocol tab the settings section.
Just check http, ftp, mail realone(realplpayer has it'sown port) etc then winproxy will open the needed ports.

You can however maintain an very specific configuration with it. If you could spare the money it could be a good deal...however since i got a old computer and not much money i will use smoothwall on my old pentium 166 (which is overkill) for the proxyserver/firewall in the near future.

For me the winproxy is an temperary solution. I hope the smootwall machine is up and running before the trial time of winproxy is over...

Goto file>settings>Site restrictions>
Then you find a couple of lists :
-Smart filter site list: i don't know much about this one.
-Blocked site list: put all the domain names or urls you never want to see in this list. This one works on popups, when you no the url of the popup.
-Permitted list: put all the good ones here if you check this, sites other than listed can not be seen.
-Blocked banner list: All documents who are coming from an listed url or domain are replaced with an neutral image. I think it's very handy to stop those anoying flickering animated banners.

Howto open winproxy after installing: Double click on the little icon. (a white mask)
