I am taking a Consumer Behavior and Branding Course, at the minneapolis School of advertising. (BRAINCO) and need to get feed back on two advertising concepts by Monday, March 3.

I am running into a problem finding enough people. I really need males 22-45, but any feedback is welcome. If a few of you could take a quick look at a two concept sketchs and give me some feed back on the following questions.

1. What do you feel is the main message of the adversting?

2. Is the advertising relevent to you is it appealing?

3. What does it say about the brand, The brand being Gorilla Glue?

Any other comment would be welcome, the information will only be used for my class, and names and sources will not be reveiled.

Note: This is not comercial project. I am in no way connected with Gorilla Glue. The advertising is purely speculative in nature.

Male, 40, not native from this country:
1 - have the right glue at the right moment.
2 - not relevant, since I rarely need glue; not really appealing, but made me pay attention to it; the second drawing I found better and clearer than the first one that took me a while to figure out what was it about
3 - it says that it's about a glue that can solve your gluing problems, that's all I can see.
I'm not good at grading drawing works. I'm not a madsci and never will be. I could be a Gorilla glue customer though

2) I hate fishing and golf even more so not relevent an not apealing (taste part)
I found the corner with the glue irrelvant. Make the 'shelves in the shed' smaller and the glue bigger you are suppossed to sell glue right? (opinon part)
Also try to find something which is more recognized by the majority.

I'm not a guy but since you need feedback, here you go I'm 36.

1. You really should have glue on hand at all times, you may need it.
2. No, not appealing to me. I never particpate in outdoor sports - ever.
3. Gorilla glue says 'strong, aggressive, powerful' to me.

perhaps you should make more of the gorilla aspect. it does seem an easy enough brand name to 'stick' in the mind if you ever decided to buy glue but I would perhaps make the advert more believable - I find it hard to believe that a broken golf club or fishing rod would become useable again just by being glued

1. You need to carry Gorilla Glue with you when ever you are do some sort of "extra curricular" activity
2. Somewhat. I had a driver that I LOVED and I broke the head off of it
3. That it is all you need when you break something that you use.

It "kind of" puts across the message that it is geared toward more sterotypical male sports (golf, fishing). Not to say that women don't golf
or fish, but those sports are more thought of as male sports. Gorilla Glue will be there if you break something when you are out doing some
good ol' male bonding.

Gorilla Glue can fix your broken toys, so don't leave it at home, take it with you wherever you go.

2. Is the advertising relevent to you is it appealing?
No and no. As I don't fish, and I have never seen the head of my golf club pop off. I also feel that the product is overstepping itself. I would have a hard time believing that a "Glue" could fix either of those situations. It just seems silly and whimsical.

3. What does it say about the brand, The brand being Gorilla Glue?
Some stong freaken glue. If it could fix my fishing pole and my golf club it has got to be damn strong.

1.) Gorilla Glue - It's not there when you need it most.

2.) The advertising is not appealing in the least, and I think it fails to convey a solid message.

3.) Gorilla Glue has many uses and can be most helpful in almost any broken/mishap situation.


Additional Comments: Overall this is a weak attempt at advertising. I don't find it memorable or find the phrase all that catchy. Next time I go shopping I'm not going to buy Gorilla Glue or even think about it, for that matter. The first of the two images is worse. It's jumbled and busy... and it's annoying because it looks like the fishing pole is doing the "thinking".
The second image also falls far short of par (pun intended... =D )... because while I'm not interested the slightest big in golfing, when I think about a broken club, I wouldn't imagine it could be fixed with glue. I could be completely wrong because I really have no idea..... However, because of my mind set, I'm likely to believe this ad is blowing smoke up my ass. (I might also add, I wouldn't fix a fishing pole with glue either.)
So yah..... to re-cap... I think the entire thing is senseless.


edit: And now after reading the other responses..... I'd like to note that WM put things quite well.

Thank you all for the great feed back, your guy and gals are the best. Oh and thanks for the addtional comments I will take them into account on the next batch of concepts.

It will be interesting to see if the Golf and Fishing referances, work better locally when I do my live interviews. It may be the referances is too specific to Minnesota, we have way to may golf courses and more fishing then I car for. I widen my customer profile and the concept is just too weak as I guessed, back to the drawing board again.

I infact considered using a Gorilla in one my other concepts it looked like a gorilla smashed a coffee table, and the copy read, "She'll never believe the gorilla story again, better get gorilla glue."

The problem is; I needed to hit a specfic strategy, I need to come up with a way to sell the customer on the idea that they realy need more then one bottle of Gorilla Glue. While targeting a specfic demographic data. We profile a typical user of Gorilla Glue, one who uses it professionally but currently only considers if for work application.

My error it appears is that I related to specificly to my imagined profile or chose a subject that caused too much disbelief.

The international options are always interesting, as so many products are moving national and international. It's important to consider the (impact or lack-of ) local referance may have.

I am learning a lot so far form it.

I used Gorilla glue to repair my guitar neck when it snapped. My impression of it, and the advertising on the bottle, was that it was very strong. In fact, thats why it was recommended, is because it was extremely strong.

An impression that I got was a very masculine-tough type glue.

Your advertising, on the other hand, doesn't look appealing, and was too confusing to be considered an advertisment. When I look at an ad, I should be able to know what it's about, what the object is, what it does, it's high-points etc almost immediatly. It seemed to be lacking in those departments.

2: Nope, since I don't carry a kit.
3: Gorilla Glue, the choice for the discerning gentleman. One who's not afraid to get his hands dirty when his wife isn't watching, but will call for a mechanic when her car doesn't start.
