The strange thing about this is it has worked before and suddenly it says the speed is too fast. It is currently set at 16X and is ran under WinXP Home Edition. The specs are:
Intel Celeron 2Ghz
256Mb RAM
ATAPI BenQ CD-CDRW 48x24.
Also my gf has used different brands of CDs as well but not too much luck. Things were fine a while ago and now KABLEWY it says it is too fast but the settings are not set that high.
Cheers

Luxo, does like, someone mess around on your computer when you are not there? You have more computer problems in the short time of a month, than I do in a year...who, or what, is messin' with your computer, dude?

As for solving your problem, I could only begin to guess...sorry. My first suspicion would be that some settings had been changed...

sorry if this seems like a stupid question....but did you set the speed slower and try it??? and....here's another stupid one.....is the cd the right speed for what you're trying to do??? and last stupid question....did you read the manual that came with it and/or hop on the benQ's website???
sorry...but i try the simple stuff first....most people forget these things

More dumb questions:

What exactly are you trying to burn and what software are you using to burn it? I use Win XP Pro and can burn anything without problems at any speed, including my fingers...

Well BUGGER! What do you know.....her CD writable drive is f***ed again. A CD was burnt successfully by me after I fixed it last week but since then it doesnt work nor does it work through Media Player.
Would it be the drive itself and how it was installed?
Strangely enough mine doesnt work either. Its a RICOH and I tried getting an update for it but that didnt hlp. You insert a CD and the computer thinks it doesnt even exist. Would it be BIOS by any chance or how it was installed?
Also it cant read from this drive either which is a bugger, only got the DVD drive left.

I really hate CD Burners.

well, about 6 weeks after i got this computer i had to have the cdrw replaced. it's a benQ. since i got the new one, it's worked just fine. it even took a nasty tumble down a flight of stairs (no i didn't throw it down the stairs). my folks also got the same computer i did, at the same time i did and just 2 weeks ago had to have their benQ replaced. so, from my experience, it seems to be a problem with shotty equipment.

luxo, sounds like its a connection problem or driver problem with the cd-r drive itself. if the computer can't see at all it would indicate its not connected.

btw, for my cd burning purposes i've got a plextor drive and use nero to burn, both work flawlessly and neither has ever given me a prob.

FYI... If you use roxio E-Z CD creator 5 with win XP, chances are, you will have serious problems... unless you get the software update.

There is a bug in it (E-Z CD creator) which will completely disable your burner. no read, write, listen from...etc. It is a known issue with xp.
