Although a lot of you may not even know what or where it was...
'The Old Man of the Mountain' crumbled and fell in the last few days. ---> story here
I don't even know if there's anyone else who grew up in that area.... but for me personally, growing up in NH and living about 10 minutes from there, it's got a bit of an impact.

Yikes...they just put that on the state quarter, too.

Many of my formative years were spent living in NH, and the Old Man was always such a large icon...

Of course in the greater scheme of things it may not be a big deal, but....it is a sad day all the same
=(

Thanks for sharing the link Michael.

now, don't get me wrong, i think it is a real shame that it has crumbled, it sounded like a beatiful icon - but restoration?

correct me if i'm wrong, but the beauty of it is in its 'natualness' - the fact that it just happened, and happened to look like an old man's face. i believe that the previous efforts to preserve it were well placed, but to restore it?

it just seems a little unnatural and desperate. personally, i think some sort of small replica or monument at or near the site would be more appropriate. but maybe that's just me.

Yes,,,I just read about that in today's newspaper. I was out of town the other day and saw that on my way through NH...too bad that had happened but weather and time takes it's toll.

I wonder if they will change the NH quarter now??...hmmmm probably not though
