Alrighty then, it's a well known fact that I'm about as mathematical as a elephant.

So, say I wanted to learn maths relating to the kind of stuff you'd need to know when programming 2D and 3D graphics, what areas of maths would I want to study?

Trigonometry? Physics? Geometry?

Oh and any book recommendations would be mighty handy as well.

I think it's about time I re-learn all the shit I never paid attention to in school since their not letting me take any math electives in my current course at University. Oh and the elephant statement wasn't much of an exaggeration either. I'm seriously thick when it comes to this so if you do recommend a book, make sure it's one that starts small, with lots of pictures and stuff. =)

Thanks.

well, 2d games is mostly a bit of trigonometry (for rotation and the like) and basic linear and quadratic equations (basic physics),
though matrix math (again for rotatation) and integrals can be used quite nicely as well.
3d is definatly the domain of matrices....

sorry, no books for ya.

Well, kinda, but not really. I have a vague idea of which direction I want to head in but I'm not sure if I'm willing to put in the grey matter required to go the whole slog yet. Right now, I'm suppose I'm looking for areas to explore a little. Test the water here and there and see if I like the temperature, although, I'd like to keep away from the whole engine building stuff, but not too far away.

I doubt I'll ever write my own 3D rendering engine or anything like that, but I'd like to be able to work with tools other people have built. I'm starting to move away from the web and explore other things, things that will most likely require a much higher understand of maths, but one thing?s for sure, it'll always be real-time interactive stuff.

I'm probably not making any sense, and you've probably already answer my question so I should probably just shut up and go hunting for some stuff in the library.
