I was just wondering if anyone in here is into hiking at all. I haven't really gone on any major hikes yet this summer because of my injury but I am planning to hike this next month. Seek the Peak

I can't wait to do it and it hsould be a great challenge seeing as my leg is pretty weak but I should be able to make it to the top. Love this place it's one of the most beautiful places here in the Northeast region.

Check the pic section too

Hiking...yummy.
I suggest walking to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and back up in one day.
That was by far the hardest thing I have ever done, and I have been to Nepal
and hiked around. Another good hike is at Big Bend in Texas, up to Emory Peak...
done that three times, it's probably my favorite place. Also, some mountains in New
Mexico and Colorado, and a bunch of little ones in Virginia and North Carolina.

Already went to a 4000 meter high mountain near the "Mont Blanc" (White mountain ?)...by my feet. Not really hiking, but that was quite an adventure though.

And I like !

That's so wonderful to be on a high mountain, and to contemplate a dawn... And the night falling upon the pics and the valleys... And so romantic.. And so poetic... Uh, ok I stop here my personal feelings, I just wanted to say it's wonderful

G Nolander - That is excellent...sounds like you are an avid hiker/climber. I would like to go to some of those places that you mentioned especially Nepal...that must have been spectacular hiking there.

I gotta start off easy though seeing as I am still in a full leg brace and I lost about 4-5lbs of muscle off my leg and I am trying to get it back and this is one of the best way that I found to do it because I like to hike as much as I can.

Hopefully this summer I am going to do Mt. Katahdin on a solo trip.

I am lucky that I am workin for LL Beans because I can test products like tents, sleeping bags...etc for them and use it for free.

I'm working on rehabing a leg injury too. It's been 2 1/2 years since I took a little spill doing some ice climbing (ok, not so little) in the Alaska Range. In ten days I'll be headed home to Anchorage and will see how well this gimpy leg moves me around in the high country.

I hope you make it to the top, but more importantly I hope you enjoy each and every minute of your journey.

Hiking...oh wow...what a joy.

I have done about six 300 mile solo walks in the British countryside, and can say they have been among the most rewarding times of my life. I also walked in the Black forest in Germany, in Italy, France, Portugal, Spain Wales and Scotland.

My next trip I may walk from Hamburg in Germany to Rome in Italy. That will be a real epic trek. I always go by myself as I can't find anyone foolish enough to accompany me but if the truth be told I enjoy the spiritual solitude... walking from sunrise to sunset... just me and nature and the Great Spirit. I would recomend this to anyone.

..xpi...

Yea. Nepal was cool. The mountains at least. The cities are a little sad. A ton of poor people. India was even worse. I saw a 10 yr old kid walking down the street with torn up clothes, all dirty, smoking a cig. He looked like he was about 50 or so, his stature and everything. Must be a rough life. But the hiking is awesome.

I like hiking... Don't get to do as much of it as I would like though. Though what I consider "hiking" is probably just an afternoon stroll to some of you guys! But I enjoy getting out and exploring the woods when and where I can...

I'll be doing a great deal of "hiking" here in a couple of weeks. Getting ready for a trip to Scotland for 14 days. In between towns, we'll be taking the train, but everywhere else, we'll be walking... I'll be getting my $$'s worth out of my little Timberlands!
Nepal would be cool though... One day, perhaps...

Update: Well I am not sure if I will be doing what I had originally posted this year. I hiked a mountain near hear called Old Speck and it's the 3rd highest peak in Maine and part of the AT (Appalachian Trail) and is about 8miles round trip. I didnt make it to the top and decided to turn around due to my knee giving out and the pain I was in. It was a good hike still and was a good workout for me....maybe later this summer I will make it to the top. I won't stop hiking and will probably take some pics when I go out on a 2 or 3 day excursion in about a month or so.

I used to hike and rock climb about 10 years ago. Things change and there is just no time for that hobby any more for me. Perhaps again someday. One of the coolest climbs was up Tahquitz rock. About half way up, I took a picture looking down and looking up.

Have you ever done any rock climbing, Indus? I know that's probably not a good idea while your knee isn't up to snuff but what about before?

Bugimus: No I havent ever done rock climbing but it was something that I was getting interested into before I left for the AF. I would like to try bouldering when I am able to handle some harder activities. I would like to try climbing w/ ropes...I think there are places that I look into climbing around Acadia Natl Park.

Like the pic that you shot looking down.....that looks like it was a pretty good climb.
