Hi, guys. How are you? Is it good Saturday?
Tonight, national rugby team of New Zealand called All Blacks has a game against Wales. I am going to pub to watch it. I am not so keen on rugby but I love the atmospher of people watching it with drinking beer. I will do that.

Anyway, do you know any web site, where I can study about database software basics?
I mean I want to know the difference between Aceess2000, SQL server 2000, MySQL, Oracle and FoxPro etc. I want to compare them in details such as cost, platforms requirement, security issue and so on.

Please let me know if you know. Have a good weekend. See you.

Hiroki:

Anyone who can have a peaceful weekend during the last week of a college term must know the secret of life. Could that secret have anything to do with Irish beer?

Hi, Norm.
Well, I didn't mean anything actually.
Just wrote what I thought.
BTW, what database have you got for yourself?
I was looking for those web site.
There seems to be a war between MS SQL Server and Oracle, aren't there?
Any thoguhts about it?

I'm just learning database development myself. I have been using MySQL for PHP development(installed on my machine) and lately have been working with SQL Server with asp.net(at my previous internship). I spent an entire week trying to use .Net to upload/download Blob datatypes in SQL Server, with no success. To be honest, my DB knowlege is pretty weak, I wish I had taken some database classes before I wrapped up the schoolyear.

I may install Oracle on my laptop, since it is now available for OS-X. But that means even more to learn....

As far as the war between the big boys, I believe Oracle has the lead in scaleability, and the biggest market share in enterprise, but SQL Server seems to almost as good in the benchmarks.
