Topic awaiting preservation: A note. (Page 1 of 1)

A little bit ago, I posted a link (from http://www.ozoneasylum.com/Forum1/HTML/007478.html ) to http://www.dgleague.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2934 , where someone had used mine and schitzoboy's image as a sig. I've since visited the page and noticed that someone from this forum posted replies to that thread.

I had explicitly stated that I did not want the issue brought up. In addition, I at no point asked anyone to bring it up for me.

I am a little peeved that somebody posted messages about it, especially including information which could have brought visitors of that forum to this forum.

It has been said before, and apparently must be said again, that in cases of piracy/"rips", action should not be taken until the person who was ripped explicitly asks for others to take action. I did not ask for this, and I wish that the posts had not been made.

I understand that whoever did it probably meant well, and I thank you for your concern, but let's just get this point across one more time:

Do not take action against rippers unless the one who was ripped has given you permission to do so.

My apologies if my original post led anyone to think that it was warranted. If you felt strongly about the issue, and wanted to speak out regardless of my opinion, that would have been alright, but you should not have associated yourself with me or with this forum in general.

Again, thank you for your concern, but please think twice next time.

Slime, not only do you have a good point, but it is imperative that such permission is first gained from the owner!

I'm sorry to hear that you have been subject to such ignorance. I would like to say that your response ^above^ is a credit to you. Where I have seen others, ranting and cursing in a similar situation, yours is measured, balanced and erudite. In reading it, one can have only respect for the author.

Sad that someone with such a poor command of the English language should consider themselves suitable to be the "spokesperson" for the asylum too ... Ah well ... 'slife I guess

Well, now, let's not go insulting whoever did it; they meant well, I'm sure, and the last post in the thread is old, so it's forgotten now. I'm not really upset over it. I just wanted to make the point again for those who never heard it before.

Of course, as has been said, in addition to going against your wishes Slime, whoever this is has taken the name of the board itself, and in so doing has dragged everyone who is a member into this crap.

I, for one, really looked up to a few people in this forum in regard to their ability, reputation, and efforts to help out the "little guy."

Yeah, but it's not the fact that this person did something about it, it's that they presumed to speak for Slime even though he asked them not to, and that they also presumed to speak for the entire Asylum by choosing the username they did.

That's just a really shitty way to go about it....well intended or not.

I really don't get the point why post and use this site's name and make fun of it. It's just a waste of his time. The guy, if he is a guy, is just making a fool of himself. He doesn't know what kind of consequences he's facing if he's caught. Why not just track him down? *I'm just kidding*Nobody could do this apart from Doc himself.

They probably used that name just to be sort of a represenative of this place or something. it's not that big a deal.

And if it draws other people to the asylum, thus advancing their knowledge on the issue, and advancing their knowledge of what it is all about to make your own stuff...all the better.

GN: Did you actually read that thread? Did you see how quickly things went downhill? The point is that Slime never asked anyone to be his advocate--you can't just run around saying that you speak for someone without consulting them first. The point is that if anyone says something, it should be the people who are affected, not some third party.

The problem is that this person is *not* a representative of this place, and should not presume to be.

Unfortunately, they made themselves a representative uninvited, and proceeded to make a total ass of themselves (and by proxy, the Asylum). So, if anyone will be "drawn" here it will more likely be for less than scholarly purposes. More than likely, nobody there will bother coming here, with the wonderful first impression they've now gotten.

And it's not necessarily a huge issue in the big picture, and this place or that place really is trivial in the big picture and all that...

The issue really (to me) is simply a matter of personal responsibility, and not presuming to speak for a group that you've not been chosen to speak for. Kind of a broad issue that reaches beyond silly things like discussion forums...
