go so I start my laptop .. it goes through it's speal and then just stops it's forward progress at the blue screen with the Windows XP logo on it .. and doesn't continue to load into my OS so that I can work .. so I shutdown .. try working in safe mode .. same thing just this time a smaller blue screen with logo .. then try to recover from last time everything was functionable .. still the blue screen .. then I try safe mode with command prompt .. try to run a scandisk .. still a blue screen and logo .. I'm getting pissed now

I insert System Recovery Disk 1 .. it's not getting a response .. NOTHING I'm trying is getting a response .. I'm close to calling HP Service Reps .. since this laptop is only 5 months old .. anything else I should check out before making the call?

If I'm understanding your problem right, then I just had a similar problem that hung up my computer for about 3 days. Just stick in a Windows XP bootable installation CD (assuming your comp came with one, or you could borrow or burn one) that is the right one (Home, Pro or Server) and do a REPAIR. That fixed mine, and the symptoms sounded the same.

Hope it works.

Are you using XP Pro or Home? and what kind of laptop?... Do you have a separate OS instalation disk or is it bundled with the systen recovery software...?

Have you set up as an administrator? If it is XP Pro then there can be two administrator options and the most powerful one is only available and visible in safe mode...

I just spent days repairing my brothers HP... their recovery disk + Operating System can be a bit problematic at the best of times...

...xpi...
