Winamp version 2.0 It's stable, small, and doesn't have te stupid memoryhogging "extra's" version 3 has. Ain't broken, nothing to fix.

Also, I use a plugin to listen to ooooold Snes game music. If you liked thsoe old games, it's a great way to listen to ye olde soundtracks of your favourite games. Plugin and music can be found at http://www.alpha-ii.com/snesmusic .

Dracula X (Castlevania 5: Vampire's Kiss)
Earthworm Jim (I and II)
Final Fantasy (just about anything)

I've got a copy of MusicMatch with my Logitech Cordless keyboard & mice package, but I didn't like it. It seems a little bloated to me. So, I'm still using WinAmp 2 (no need to talk about it) for music and MV2Player for all kind of videos (I like MV2 because I can tweak all kinds of thing in its never ending options dialog)...

MAX!!! Been a long time. Nice to see you.

MMJB for myself. I don't know why really. I just like it. I have a lifetime license. I own almost all of those games, Mahjqa. Funny. I'll have to check that out.

I've been working on skinning in Winamp3... I'm not sure I like it. It has been converted to an Xml style interpreter which, while it opens up some wonderful possibilities, makes it difficult for others to do much more than change colors. I have a mini set built for the Asylum right now but... I think I'm going to scrap it and go to Winamp2 to skin things out. Maybe both. I'm planning on building a skin package for the Asylum, MMJB Winap 2&3, Win XP, and maybe ICQ...

I still need to check the faq to be sure no one minds my using colors and whatnot but seeing as the idea has stalled somewhat... (i.e. Not going anywhere) I'm not too worried yet.

So anyway. MMJB is my choice. It's very clean and the tagging functions work very well with my sensabilities. I can control the ripped output and retag things on the fly. The auto DJ is a wonderful tool for someone with 20Gb of music. Check it out. Around $60 US for lifetime license and $30 for a multi-year license. My first multi year lasted for... 3-4 years. Not a bad deal if you ask me.

Winamp 2 for listening!

I've used MMJB for ripping since the IRC mp3 trading days, exceedingly pre-metallica litigation. I still use mmjb to this day for getting my music onto hardrive, and into the mp3 player.

I'm kind of torn besides the bloat I think Winamp 3 just looks cooler

But I think MMJB has the best organizational features. At one point I finally spent a couple of days going through and tagging all my MP3s properly in it and it made huge difference, it's ability to retag in bunches is unique AFAIK and alone worth keeping it on my computer even if I don't use it as much for playback

On another note actually does anyone know of a decent player with a really small resouce footprint? At work my computer kind of sucks and I tend to have to keep several monster apps open so I'm looking for something really simple that will playback both MP3s and winamp streams

i've had some major issues with winamp 3 recently, i can't get it to autoplay cd's. i also had some kind of freakish hardware conflict with it and my new (and no longer used) video card: i'd be playing a cd thru winamp, it would lock up, then suddenly uninstall my dvd and cd-r drives. weeeeeird.

I also use Winamp 2.x to listen and mostly MMJB to record (rip) and deal with tags. Sometimes, to correct some mp3 or music file, nothing is better than Sound Forge. It's the Photoshop of sound files.

Winamp 2.x for actually listening. It's nice and zippy (unlike that bastardized winamp3)

For organization, MMJB is what I use. I don't use it for listening though, it's a little bloated and the interface is clunky (in my opinion).

EDIT: Fig: ditch Wi(am)mp3. It's buggy, unstable, and it hogs resources >:O Use Winamp2.

i posted here yesterday but got an error and was too lazy to retype anyways..

I've been using Musicmatch for a few years now... I really like the library that sorts all of my tracks whether their in my playlist or not. I tried finding other players with the library feature, but I couldn't find any good ones.. I wanted to get one that wasn't such a resource hog..

I think Winamp2 even supports video now

Frankly, that pisses me off. The only reason I use Winamp2 is because it's good at what it does (play music) and it doesn't try to do much else. Now with features being passed down from Winamp3 to Winamp2, and more features being added to Winamp3 (which will eventually make their way to Winamp2 ), it's becoming the next Windows media player *shudder*

Sucks, because I'm going to have to switch pretty soon. Any suggestions?

For music, winamp 2.x is all I ever need. I have installs of versions 2.0 up to 2.7x or something like that.

Winamp3 is the devil's own handiwork and I loathe it with a passion. It's like WinXP. Nice to look at, but it eats up system resources like there's no tomorrow.

And Max, I've loved CDEX for the longest time. I've been using cdex beta for as long as I can remember and it's the best I've seen. It's got a simple interface. It rips pretty fast. And it's got mp3->wav, wav->mp3 capability.

Hey, you seem to be sharing the same tastets than i do I am not very fond of Dracula X tho. I like better Castlevania IV. Its damn repetitive though (like 7 tracks are pretty much the same). My source actually is Zophar Domain. It is an excellent resource for rom stuff (except for downloading roms from console games ). I cant hardly believe that Super Mario all stars music sucks compared to the original (i do have the nes music as well)

I personally hate that MMJB its 10 mb, a bit too large for 56k (i actually use isdn, but i frquent many comps with 56k), and that the interface is, as already mentioned, clunky. I do use it for ripping in my own comp, though.

And winamp 3 sucks. It cant even generate an HTML playlist.
