ok i now have a server up and running at home 24/7 bar hardware failiure/powercuts etc..

So if anyone wants a place to to store images for free gimme a holler on q or msn (same as my email adress) and i will host em for ya.

Due to the problems that michael encountered with formclot, all i ask is you email me the files and i will upload em directly, that way no foriegn sigs or images will appear.

image size isnt an issue but dont take the mick too often, if its too large for email i will setup an ftp link to the image folder which i will give to individuals as needed.

anyway if ya need a host give me a holler, this will only be for registered members here with a an active participation in the forum, so one time posters and the like registering for the asylum to get access wont work, and if ya need it i will possibly allow external linking from outside the asylum in certain cases only.

Cool, but it would work for finished sigs and pics only. Why? Let's see:

You are testing your brand new sig* that tom uploaded, but it seems transparency did not work. You need to send a fixed version of tom to check it. Crap, i pulled a TPC** and the matte is wrong. Guess waht? E-mail tom, again. And so forth.

Anywayz, i always use the cheap anonymizer trick for my host.

*A solution for it would be a testing page in your hd with both asylum bg colors before uploading it, but we know many people would never do that . I do have one, and I may be uploading it one fine day.

Alevice: the reason for this was that there were too many people outside using the other free hosts that were run from here, which meant literally 1000's of sigs as in michaels case, of which asylum sigs were a small part, now what i am doing is this by getting the files by email or ftp i can ensure that the images are from genuine members, also that way i can allow them to be used outside of the asylum if needed.

ok anyone needing a place for sigs n stuff contact me, it will be sitting on my test server for the next week after that it will be going over onto my main server, the reason i am doing it this way is i want to try and get the wrinkles ironed out on this server rather than my main one first, so for a week it will be in the format http;//xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/public/images/yoursig

Actually, I wonder if a sig hosting site could employ the Asylum user database, but not tell anybody. You know, just have a blank page with a username/password box that (when you enter it correctly) will let you host sigs.

cfb: Eventually we hope to have an image hosting front which would act as a front for a number of inmate hosting services. It is possible to remotely tap the user database without there being too many security issues but centralising things would be a lot less hassle.
