For some reason, whenever i try to open any office2k program via a shortcut, the cursor change to "busy" for a fraction of a second, and the program does not open. If i try to open any of them via a file (i.e.: double clickin' "yourass.doc", "myass.xls", etc), it opens it, but just a second later says that "The program needs windows installer to be run" (more or less that message, i have a spanish version).

What could the problem be? I am using windows 98 and have alrady installed office2k since months ago, if that helps.

Well, not sure exactly, but you could go to system tools ,and run the system file checker to see if there are any corrupt files..Or maybe try reinstalling the Office Suite.

<Totally off topic>Does anyone know where the *System File Checker is in WIN 2K Pro ?</Totally off topic>

Well, certainly it would be damn cleaner trying ot reinstall, but here comes the mayo...umm...the other problem:

Mah cd drive (or anything that handles it) has failed to me. My cd-rw drive apprently got fucked up, which caused a constant freezing stuff while the comp was turned on (you wont imagine how painful was to wait like 3 additional minutes to boot). We got a new cd drive, which does not seem to be able to work with files larger than a couple of megs (for example, whenever you want to copy a mp3 to the hd, it starts copying, then it just stop reading, and my entire comp frozes). I'm not sure if i would succeed installing office2k (could or could not), but i am smart enuff to not take the risk.

Yeah, this babe is suckin.

If you're getting errors copying files to your hard drive, then your hard drive itself could be the problem and this could in turn be why Office is fucking up on you.

If you haven't alread, try doing a scandisk on the drive to see if that clears up any errors. Also, your windows installer may be corrupt. Are you able to install anything at all? Even a small program? If so, you should be able to reinstall your installer (heh). Just go to microsoft's site and do a search on the information.

I already did a Sacndisk and defrag even. Nothing wrong with it. I can install programs, even if it is a large install, it can work if all the files to install are relatively small. And not only i cannot copy, i cant even open them!

Im gonna look on MS site as suggested. Just not now, i have to go out for the rest of the day =/

Woo i got fixed office 2k, c00l. Yes, reinstalling windows...installer helped. Thanks for da ovious trick i did not thought of.

But now the oddest thing has happen'd....MS-DOS wont open! OMFG! Not that i really use MSdos that much (other than sprite ripping, rom hacking, mpq compiling, c++ program compiling, spc to it, impulsive tracker composing, and many random stuff :P), but i will be checking myself that problem later.

Although I assume your Office is a legal copy, I was going to let you know that MS has introduced a "feature" in recent Service Packs of Office, that will, once installed, make your Office completely stop working. The applications - Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access, etc. - will open and then close, without any explanations, one or two seconds later.
But since you have fixed yours, of course this was not the problem.

Do a search on your hard drive for command.com

If you can't find it, I'm pretty sure you can get a copy off of any windows system or over the internet.

Well, i do have command.com in both c:\ and c:\windows\ and seeing how i would not be able to boot without it, i dont thgink it could be corrupt. Im looking for a copy over the net anywayz.

My major suspicious for now could be a virus. Why? Well, i press ctrl+alt+del and well, two unknown programs (to me) are constatly executing. One always has a random name (right now is Qwib0b5) and the other always is Stieoeav (i did a search in google for this one and no luck )

Plus, there is an fugly blue bar below the address bar on ie that changes the links in its buttons depending the content in the page is being visited. The source of this evil? Possibly the MSn messenger plus ugrade i stupidly downloaded...ack.

I really wish i could find my frikkin windows 98 cd.

-Alevice

ps. Viol, how dare you to say my illegal copy of office 2k is illegal!
