Hi there everyone!

I'm looking for seminar topics (and project ideas too) for my final year in Computer Engineering. The topic could be anything computer-related, anything new and interesting perhaps Perhaps a research topic. I'd actually like something in which I could maybe put up an impressive presentation

If any of you have any ideas and suggestions in this regard, let me know.

All your ideas would be of great help -- could you point me to appropriate resources perhaps?

Thanks in advance

- Eyeball tracking.
- Input gloves.
- Saw a biofeedback-type input for ADHD kids. They have to "think" the cursor across the screen.
- LCD screens that you can roll-up.
- Computerized house of the future.
- The making of Golum.
- Where the gaming industry is headed.
- Evolution of the gaming console.
- Putting games in cellphones (as if talking isn't enough of a distraction).
- History of the electronic calculator. Remember basic LED calculators that used to cost $200+? Now you can get a calculator on a watch for less that $5.
- History of home computers. VIC-20, TI-something, C-64, etc.

I do have a few more ideas. I'll see if I can dig up some junk.

Advanced image/pattern recognition

My senior year robotics class had to program a robot hand to move as well as "recognize" different objects and shapes and pick up only the ones specified. It was pretty cool, and I'm sure the topic has a lot more depth than that.

Silence, I read an article about a recognition system that uses sonics. You know, bat-style. Surprisingly accurate. Could even recognize objects from various angles because each object has a unigue "aural signature" that is present from different angles.

Remember the cat that had it's eyeballs wired? Then some blind guy got his eyes wired and could see basic shapes, which could also be seen on a monitor. There was a rather famous picture of a coffee mug.

Then there was that fish that had it's brain wired to control a robot. I'm pretty sure it was a fish.

Too many cool things to try to track down!

Theres lots of info about on A.I, what about Moores Law? That could branch into what computers may be like in the future, then include some of the many topics WJ mentioned. Keeping to one narrow topic may become tedious, a broad open topic like "the future of computing" could cover a lot of things without having to resort to listing numbers and facts to use up time.

Could be put into a catagory of innovative interfaces, you could then bring in web standards something I for one could talk/shout about for a while due to my personal disgust at the current situation.

Or if you really want to get technical you could something along the lines of the physical limits processors will have in the near future, again Moores Law ... what wrong with me ? I guess thats something we were told about a good bit in College last year.

:
I did a twenty minute class presentation on Hard Disks for computer architecture, the highlight was when I (loudly) made the different noises failing hardisks make to know what exactly is going on inside (whinings and ticks and scrapes etc.. ) .. I know the noises from personal experience, it was funny enough, got a few laughs, I was quite high at the time, got good marks tho ??

-How the 20th century is changed by the Informatics Technology. Or How the computer revolution changed the world.....
-What to do with all those disposed computers and how to recycle the dangerous metals (whitout shiping it to india or china).

Those to topics are not covered by extensive research nor writings so this could be very interesting to know more about.

The Transistor- The Invention the changed the World

... I've thought about the inventor a lot- last I heard, he was still alive... I often wonder how it must feel to look around and realize that a great mass of the magic in the world was made possible y you.
