I've just gotton around to loading 3ds max 4.2 on my new pc. But when I open it, it takes 5 minutes to open, runs slow and when I close it everything else hangs for ages. my system is P4 2.4GHz with 256mb DDR SDram with XP home edition.

It used to run fine on my 500MHz PIII with 320mb SDram on win2000

Is there a memory or compatability issue here?

Are you running Norton AV by any chance? I've heard that Norton can hit Max really hard with out the appropriate patches.

WoW, I'm running Nortons 2003, but when I disabled it max loaded in 23 seconds.

Right on the money WJ

Yeah...the interference between MAX and nortons (they both try ot use the same memory sectors) is supposed to be fixed in version 4.26, so try and find that upgrade patch
