very effective commercials. Meant to be offensive- make you think twice about smoking, so they are effective. I like their tactics.

offenisve? make you think?
Nah.
They stink of melodrama and falsification for effect to me.
The only thing they make me think is "these guys are full of shit too".

Those Truth commercials used to annoy me when they were on too. They seemed over the top but perhaps they contributed in some small way to me eventually quitting. I truly hated smoking so any reminder to quit was a good reminder (in retrospect of course).

The entire Truth campaign is laden with propaganda and utter bullshit. They mangle statistics to suit their own agenda (which isn't hard considering "statistics"), they dramatize the hell out of it, and even an idiot with 2 brain cells should be able to see through this crap.
The real truth is that you're going to die one way or another. Hell, I don't see any truth campaigns advocating the application of 100spf sunblock for every man, woman and child because the sun causes cancer. Or any campaigns to outlaw the eating of fatty foods since, supposedly, fat people die sooner according to these so called "statistics".
You want to know the truth? The real, real truth? The truth is that we seem to have lost the idea of accountability somewhere along the way and decided that as individuals nothing was really our fault anymore. It's the tobacco company's fault that I got lung cancer. It's societys fault that I rob drugstores. It's my parents fault that I so fucked up in the head.
I figure if you just pulled your bollocks out of your arse and proclaimed that, "Yes, gotdammit, I'm where I am because of the choices I made and I'm damn well not going to cry about it."
I swear if ever got lung cancer, or throat cancer, I'd go on tv and put the mic right next to my speaking tube and tell the Truth people to go fuck themselves. Then I'd smoke a cigarette through the blowhole in my throat and admit that I may be paying for my decision to smoke but I'm sure as hell not going to pretend that I had nothing to do with it.

That website sucks balls. Opening a new window just to view content is annoying as hell, and I'm not even going to mention the popup adds.

Bah. Their propaganda is even more annoying to me than the lies of the tobacco industry.
Hey, guess what, I think everyone already knows that cigarettes can kill you. So please leave me alone.

the thing is, no matter how much people hear "just say no" from all kinds of politically correct sources it doesn't do a bit of good, especially for teenagers. if this can stop a kid from forming an addictive habit then i'm all for it.
is this stuff offensive? to some, maybe. innaccurate? might be, i've never done too much research. but it is effective and generally pretty creative, which is something that can't often be said for advertising.

so.....not doing things that are terrible for your health means....putting 'limits' on you rlife
it seems to me that being covered in stink and yellow stains and hacking up pieces of my black lung, not being able run ling distances or spend any large chunk of time without having to stop and smoke a cigartette, is something that would be putting a limit on your life
not that I care if anyone else does it....but your "logic" is a little flawed there pet...

There's a fine line between enjoying life and abusing yourself... That's where the judgement part comes in...
If we as individuals are aware of what we're doing to ourselves, "unhealthy" or not, where does the rest of the world get off telling us what we can and can't do, or what we should or shouldn't do? So long as I'm not hurting anyone else in the process... *shrug*
Smoking, on the other hand, hurts other people too - If you enjoy it, kudos to ya, frankly, it makes it difficult for me to breathe, which I enjoy, so if you'd just stand downwind a bit, we'll be ok...

I never really liked those commercials either. Pretty much anything I can say has already been summed up by DL and Silence. So I'll just second everything they said.
