I would like to know, exactly how would they catch these guys ? I mean, unless he goes around blagging to everyone that he caused these problems, how do they catch up with him ?

Hmmm.. looks like a variant of the MSBlast virus.

Hopkins, Minnesota, a suburb of Minneapolis. Dam the little bugger was only about 5-10 miles away.

Hope they make a nice example out of him.

It usually takes the efforts of hundreds of system administrators around the world to catch these offenders. Sometimes, they're able to chart the spread of the virus around certain geographical areas narrowing the search. They also attempt to track the virus back to the source through logs of where it's been although this route is used mostly for viruses spread through email since email servers log data in incoming/outgoing mail even when the message header is spoofed.

The guy they caught just took the blaster virus and modified it. He wasn't too intelligent about it either; that is, he linked it to his website, which was registered under his name.

I believe my new term "fuckless ugly" would be more appropriate. 'Cuz the way he's spending his time, it's pretty obvious he ain't gettin' any.

The Smoking Gun has the arrest report which details how they caught this kid.

The condensed version is that his worm, once it compromised a computer installed an executable called teekid.exe (his username) which then would contact his server at t33kid.com (do a whois and you can get the kids addy).

They simple reverse engineered the worm and basically just found the idiot from there. Usually virus writers are not so stupid.

So he's the one that altered the Blaster Virus to turn it into the SoBig virus? Explains the name then.....
