Britain's Royal Society of Chemistry is looking for the most spectacular--or, depending on how you view such things, disgusting--growth of mold to be found in an unwashed coffee mug.

Sorry, but the contest is limited to Britain.

but that doesn't mean people can't throw in their disgusting coffee cup stories (and there are plenty of Brits here so....)]

Oh I love it when you get the plumes from the powder on top of the leathery mold that is still sitting on top of the liquid coffee in your decanter. It's sealed to the glass so tightly that you have to scrape it off and even then it isn't all coming off. After a while you just say, "Meh, it adds flavor and now I know why I don't get sick," and give up.

My latest mug ran away after i told him he would need to be washed.
The newly developed living thing in it did not like the idea.
I am pretty shure the creature is not classified by any biologist yet....

So if youy see a very fast moving mug it's doc stealing coffee or it's my on the run mug.
Either way say that it "has to be returned to the respectfull owner ASAP"

Hehe, I left half full cup of coffee on the back porch for over a year at one of the share houses I lived in. The best part, is that it wasn't my mug, it was my house mates. Heh, we had an ongoing debat about it. He wated his mug back but refused to touch it in that state. I said it was his mug and not my problem, thus is sat there untill we moved out at which point we just binned it.

dracusis: lol.

unfortunatly, the local thought police (->gf) makes me wash up any cups when their hot, tasty, bitter contents have been drunk...

I prefer not to let mold grow anywhere, much less in my coffee cup! I think it tastes better without it...

However, this puts me in mind of a Red Dwarf book I read once... If I recall correctly, one of those guys was growing something in his coffee mug, and it had a name...
Some one help with that one... I know someone else has read it!

We would have had great photos of colorful mold - but we cleaned the carafe just before this topic was posted. Give us a couple weeks - we'll have more!
