Ok I'm really not sure what is/has happened but earlier this morning I turned on my computer and after about 30-45 minutes of being online it vitually froze, although it wasn't completely frozen but it took at least 30 seconds from the time I clicked START untill the menu opened.

After that happened I shut down and restarted my computer but it didn't detect any of my Hard Drives.

Primary Master: None [Should detect]
Primary Slave: None [Should detect]
Secondary Master: None [Should detect]
Secondary Slave: None [Always None]

And so I let my computer sit for a few hours before starting my computer up again.
This time it started up just fine but within 15 minutes of booting up I have been experiencing frequent "lags" and just a few minutes ago I got a blue screen error saying the following.

Disk Write Error
Unable to write to disk D.
Date or Files may be lost.

After I press a key, my AOL Instant Messanger crashes. (It's on my D Drive)

Also my sound fades in and out randomly for some reason.

I'm really confused on what to do and why this is happening as I have not downloaded anything within the past month or possibly longer. I only really use Internet Explorer for checking my Email and Posting on a few forums.

If anyone knows of any free or trial use Virus/Trojan scans I will try that. Hopefully you guys can help me resolve this problem quickly. If ya need any data about my computer I will surely supply to the best of my knowledge.

To me it sounds like your HD could possibly be corrupt ( for whatever reason ), if your not confident in your own computer knowledge, might i suggest you take it to your local computer tech and have them check it out. There are many many reasons why things go wrong with computers and although we can offer you many possible solutions, without physically looking at the computer its very difficult to determine exactly what the problem can be.

Sorry not to be of anymore help.

Edit: One possible thing for you to try is reseating your IDE cables, sometimes the internal vibrations from the CPU and PSU fan can cause the cable to work loose slightly.

If that does not solve your problem, then you could try Disk Write Error Repair

I forgot to mention I also have moved my computer a few times, from my house to my brother's house across town 2 times for a week each time so its been moved 4 times within a month. I'm thinking the problem isn't with the IDE Cables as it detected like this before.

Prmy Mstr: None
Prmy Slave: None
Scnd Mstr: None
Scnd Slave: None [Always None]

and

Prmy Mstr: Detected
Prmy Slave: None
Scnd Mstr: Detected
Scnd Slave: None [Always None]
(I can still use 90% of my computer when it don't detect the Slave drive)

and also

Prmy Mstr: Detected
Prmy Slave: Detected
Scnd Mstr: Detected
Scnd Slave: None [Always None]

I downloaded and used the RAV Scan that Astrolegoboy linked (Thanks) and it cleaned up a few Trojan infected files. And so far nothing has happened since I installed it.

Hopefully this problem is fixed, and I will check my IDE Cables after I get back from hanging out with my friend and give you all an update. Thanks for the quick responses guys I really appreciate it.

[Edit: RAV Scan just finished scanning my D Drive (Slave)]

Another cool 'disposable' anti-virus I have found is the Stinger (AVERT)..

I don't like to run full-time anti-viruses on my box and I feel I'm pretty comfy with my 'six-sense security'- but when I'm in doubt...

Well I checked the IDE Cables and they were a tad loose but I'm not sure if that caused it. It seems I got a Trojan Downloader in a file called SysReq.exe in my C:\Windows\System folder and RAV can't CLEAN it so I did the Quarantine thing. So far so good, hope it lasts. Thanks again for the suggestions and help.

If you have got a trojan downloader and your antivirus cannot remove it, try booting up into SAFE MODE ( if you can ) and then run the AV again, if the TD is present in the startup processes, then SAFE MODE may be the best option to catch it before it loads up.

This may also be of some help. SYSREQ REMOVAL INSTRUCTIONS

Wow I just got home from school and did a search for Sysreq in my computer and it's gone...completely. I also checked the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run for it also and found a few things I never seen before and know they weren't supposed to be there so that took care of a few pop-up problems.
Thank you so much for the help! =)

I LOVE this RAV program!

For your own peace of mind, I'd recommend defragmenting your drive as well as doing a full scandisk (with surface scan). Since clearing the virus from your computer seemed to fix the problem, I'd guess that was the cause, however, it also matches the pattern experienced right before a drive failure so a defrag and scandisk wouldn't hurt.

I'm way ahead of you silence

I complete scan and defragmentize both of my hard drives every 3 days.

So far so good, no ads or problems booting up!

I really like RAV Online Scan as there is nothing to download, it's always up to date, and it scans for malware on a limited basis. The biggest downside is that it is not proactive - ie prevent an infection beforehand.

If you really want to find out whats on your computer as far as adware, spyware, usage tracking - I would suggest downloading Spybot Search and Destroy.

It does a thorough job of scanning and has two levels of interfaces from easy to advanced and has recovery settings.

I had the same problem after installing a new drive in my computer. It would lag and and crash WinAmp on me. THen on reboot some of the drives didn't connect.
It was a loose IDE cable that caused my problems as well.

Do you ever get any blue screen of death error codes? if so what are they? In particular the stop : error code. It should look something like this:

stop: 0x0000008e or something similar for hard drive faults.

Get me that and I might be able to help you.
