Windows OS uses idle time to do system maintenance tasks. For example, in Windows XP when you go away from your computer and leave it running, usually when screensaver appears, disk defragmenter will kick in and start defragmenting the hard drive, which produces the noises that "George" is talking about. But, you really shouldn't interfere with those system applications that are running in the background. Let them do their job, and forget about manual disk defragmentation, because it's just a waste of time... |
