Think I recall a few HP users here... so...

a friend called last nite in something of a panic because McAffe virus scanner was detecting suspicious files. A quick google produced the following.... what I found particularly interesting is the reply from "George" about 2/3rds down the page...and how he uses a couple of HP proggies to do some fine tuning. He certainly seems to know what he's talking about. Just wish I could run those on my win2kpro.

Anyway... if you or someone you know is running an HP machine you'll find this interesting.

Windows OS uses idle time to do system maintenance tasks. For example, in Windows XP when you go away from your computer and leave it running, usually when screensaver appears, disk defragmenter will kick in and start defragmenting the hard drive, which produces the noises that "George" is talking about. But, you really shouldn't interfere with those system applications that are running in the background. Let them do their job, and forget about manual disk defragmentation, because it's just a waste of time...
