Have any of you Editplus users found a way to control what doctype is added to the top of the HTML template by default?

Is there anyway to change the format of non-closeable tags like br and img so the trailing slash is added automatically?

EDIT: OK, I found the HTML template and changed that. Now I'd like to be able to edit the tags. I tried looking in the syntax file but that wasn't exactly helpful. Anywhere else to check?

I figured that one out, I just changed my html template to what I wanted.

My problem now is that when I use EditPlus's insert image command it doesn't put the trailing slash by default. Right now I just have to go in and add the slash by hand. It would be so much nicer to have it already there. The problem is that I'm starting to think the tags are hard-coded and unchangeable.

Never used editplus.

Have you looked to see if there are updates planned to support XHTML?

EditPlus is my editor of choice. But I don't use this feature you talked about. I like EditPlus because of its printing capability, multiple windows inside the main window, nice shortcuts, coloring, and some other stuff, while keeping the interface clean and easy to use.

... but it's a text editor, not a dedicated HTML editor..

yeah, that's what I was going to say, but I forgot to enter my password, and you all know how that is...

I use it to write HTML, but no different than using Notepad- not like using HomeSite..

...stuff like this is why I stuck with Editpad Classic...

Krets, the <img> tag not having a traling slash is a sore point for many editplus users. You can alter the tags of most HTML that's inserted using the shortcut buttons throught the HTML template file (called html4.ctl located in the edit plus 2 install directory), but altering the img tag doesn't work as that part is appently hard coded into the source. I have a simple regex search saved that I run on all my pages before I upload them (the global search and replace on all open files comes in really handy here).

I believe a new version will be released soon that will address this issue (if it hasn't been released already). There's a mailing list on yahoo for edit plus subscribers and apparently this issue has been fixed and you can get an updated beta version form the author is you email him. But I've still not subscribed, because of this very issue.

It seems as if the development of this program has lapsed a little over the past year, which is sad because it's such a well designed program for web scripting (I also use it for actionscripting with a program called 'flush' which sets up shortcut commands to recompile flash movies from editplus, really handy). If they do release a new version that fixes this issue then I'll actually be willing to send in the registration fee, but untill then...

I was kind of afraid of that after checking the .ctl and .stx files Drac. Guess I'll just have to tap my foot and wait patiently.

Thanks man.

Actually, after making the above post, I sent of an email to the author asking about this, his reply but hours later:

quote:
Hi,

In the latest version 2.11 SR-2, you can modify the IMG tag in htmlbar.acp file
in the EditPlus directory. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Best Regards,
Sangil Kim

So I downloaded the latest version to check, It's a simple modification, change this:

<IMG SRC="" WIDTH="" HEIGHT="" BORDER="0" ALT="^!">

to this:

<IMG SRC="" WIDTH="" HEIGHT="" BORDER="0" ALT="^!" />

after I restarted edit plus it worked perfectly.

You might also want to change the case of the tags but there's an option around somwehere that'll convert all program generated HTML code in lowercase, which does the trick perfectly.

And given the speedy response, I'll definatly be registering the program soon.
