I believe the reason you're havin' trouble opening certain file types is because they don't have the proper mime types. IE will guess the mime type if one isn't given, (so many webmaster's have never gotten into the habbit). FB doesn't guess mime types for security reasons. I wish they had the option to though. I believe that saving the file to your PC and then running it is a feasible work around in the meantime.

Oh, stop being a pussy.

You'll need to install it sooner or later for testing anyway.

That was a low blow, man. You sure know how to hit a guy where it hurts.

OK, fine, I'll install the blasted thing. I mean, if I can jump back into this pile of loonies, I think I should be able to install a silly little browser...

There is one feature in FB that I would prefer if it would act like IE.
When you have just visited a site, and if you want to visit it again, usually, in IE, I just have to click that down arrow at the right of the address bar (or press F4, in IE) and my last visited addresses will show up in the order they were last visited.
Well, in FB there is the same feature but the order in which the addresses are saved in that list is not related to when the site was last visited. I mean, it should be LIFO, but I'm afraid it's FIFO, so to make a point. For instance, the address of the OzoneAsylum is stuck as the first one, no matter what I do, in FB. Not that having this address as the first one bothers me, but I'd rather having my last visited sites up there.

I think the trick in Mozilla / Firebird is that is displays the sites you visit most at the top of the drop-down list.

But getting the list you're looking for isn't too hard either:
Press Strg+H for History, select View: By Last Visited beneath the sidebar's search box and you're there. Not quite the same as IE's address bar menu but almost...

Speakin' of peer pressure... Have you tried the new version yet, Emps? I know you had trouble gettin' .6.1 to function, I'm curious to know if .7 solved whatever problem was breakin' it for you.

One little question,

I use MSN messenger and I use hotmail to well, e-mail, when I click the "X new e-mails" on my MSN contact list it opens in IE even tho Mozilla is my default browser.

If I could get that sorted I'll be fully 'zilla converted

Just found out that if you right-click any picture from a website, you can choose not have anymore pictures from that address displayed (block images from xxxxx.com).
Isn't it great?

except for one thing (so far)

i have html pages with the images that goes with them on my desktop
firebird opens the pages but not with the images - broken image icons
but it will open the images alone
i looked around at mozilla org and can't figure it out (me stupid)
how do i fix this? and i will like it even more.

I will make a guess here.

If I understood it correctly, you have some images in your desktop that are part of some html files that you like to see in your browser !? That's weird. Well, but that's not the question.

My guess is that Firebird does not know what a desktop is because it's something that only Microsoft apps - or apps made by companies that worship Microsoft - knows how to do.

So, a possible workaround would be if you could edit such pages but instead of using Desktop or something like it, you use the real address of the desktop and this is:

Documents and Settings/"Your login name"/Desktop/

"Documents and Settings is located in the same drive as your Windows folder. Substitute "Your login name" by your login name (this is a recursive explanation).

If you are already using the real address of the desktop, then I don't have any more guesses.

it's pages i make for myself--learning exercises
i use "C:\WINDOWS\Desktop etc.."
when i open it is changed to "file:///C:/WINDOWS/Desktop etc.." in the address bar
here's a clue--i made one tonite with an image in a iframe and
on open i get alert box says c is not a valid protocol
if i put the pages on website they open just fine
or with explorer they open fine without internet
i guess it's to do with windows?
thanks for trying to help

oh well, i still like firebird anyway

Have you tried putting all of them in their own folder on the desktop? That's what I do when I'm developing a webpage and I've never had any troubles like yours.

I'm sure pages in FB load slower than IE, like the same picture took noticibaly longer to load in FB than it did in IE and it wasn't in my cache either.
