I ordered ONE Memorex DVD+R 25-pack spindle 4x, from amazon, for $30, and I received FOUR spindles. Isn't it great?
Probably the guy responsible for the packaging doesn't know the meaning of the "4x" and misinterpreted it as four packs.
Anyway, I have already contacted amazon and let them know about the problem.
I gave them 30 days to pick up the extra three packs at my address. If they don't show up in 30 days, they'll be all mine !!!!
Now, couting down...

did they charge you for 1 or 4 packs? If they only charged you for one pack and gave you 4, you are a better man than I am about contacting them.

It's a temptation, even being "only" $90 of value. But I can't act differently. I would feel bad.
I have this strong principle of not feeling good about getting stuff that's not mine. But I am not perfect, though. This principle doesn't always really apply if the stuff happens to be, let's say, intangible, like a small, innocent and beautiful mp3 file. Let's say that my moral conduct has this little tiny bug, whose circunstances of appearance is not totally clear to me, so since I can't replicate the bug under a normal daily-basis environment, I am not being able to eliminate it completely from my principles so far.

Update to the matter: Amazon replied and they'll send me a special pre-paid label so I can send the extra stuff back to them.

Hey, my very nice blondwood computer desk was completely free. My parents ordered a couch, and the furniture company sent them the desk instead; when they called, the company sent the couch but didn't pick up the desk. My parents called them one more time to come pick up the desk -- no response -- free $300 desk. I guess that's the kind of thing companies already account for when they budget for "shrink;" it's not all theft, some of it is just carelessness like this.

I bought a laptop once from a mail order company. Cost $3500. They sent me two by mistake. I contacted them to pick up the extra one... They said they would... I waited 6 months... they never contacted me again.. you can guess the rest of the story...

A year later I ordered a colour printer/scanner from the same people... they sent me three of them by mistake!! I contacted them again and explained the situation. They told me to keep them all as collecting them would cost them too much. Hmmm...

What shall I order next???

Actually there is a law in the U.S. that if you receive something through the mail that you did not ask for you don't have to pay for it.

Most mail order companies are aware of this law and it is often more of a hassle for them to pick up the item than to just write it off so you can keep what you get.

Several years ago I orderd about $750.00 worth of software from a mail order company. When the package arrive, the company had put two copies of sevral of the products into the shipment. I contacted the company and they said to mail the extras back to them. A couple of days later the called back and said to hold on to the extra software adn they would have FedEx pick it up. By that time I had already mailed the packages back and then the US Post Office lost the package. The mail order house got nasty and accused me of trying to keep something that wasn't mine. That was when I checked with a friend of mine who manages a mail order shipment warehouse and spoke with a lawyer and found out I didn't really have to return the extra software.

I spent nine months trying to clear this up with the company and was sorry I had tried to return the extra software.

That's really a weird law. I can't understand the logic. If the people that sent you the extra stuff is going to pay for it to go back to them, why consider the goods not theirs?
Not logic.
For me, the fact that you didn't asked for it doesn't make it yours if it's clear it's a consequence of a mistake.
Anyway, this is America. Anything can happen here.

The reason for the law is so that shady companies don't sent unsolicited 'merchandise' to random people and then bill them for it.

Okay, it sounds reasonable.
Now I am remembering that some months ago, I received a pack of books, for children, from some Scholastic company, and I didn't want to open it because although the address was my address, the name in the label was not mine nor anyone from my family. And it wasn't also from the previous guy that lived here because we know his name.

Then, I searched the Internet, found the site from the company - it's a famous Scholastic something company - and I sent them an email telling about the wrong delivery.

Well, they never answered, so some time after, I just opened the box and gave all the material to my daughters. The books are still around here.

Oh, what I was going to tell is that there were a bill to pay near the box, like if someone had ordered it but would pay for it when it arrived. Of course I never paid that bill, because I never ordered the material.

I once ordered some books from an online bookstore (I think it might have been Barnes & Noble). You the 6-8 weeks for delivery bit? I waited six months, but the books never arrived. Actually, six months was when I said enough is enough and asked them to give me a refund. They did--the refunded the amount that had been charged to my credit card, and the order was listed as cancelled. Six months later (a year after I had ordered the books), they arrived (looking a bit worn--they must have made a detour to Antarctica or something).

My question is: should I have contacted the company and paid for the books? Technically, I did order them, but the order was cancelled after a ridiculous amount of time had passed, so technically I didn't order them. I didn't give it much thought at the time, but now I'm not sure about the legal ramifications of this situation.

Suho - chances are, there was some sort of guarantee on the 6-8 weeks, in which case, even if it was delivered, it was too late.

Earlier this year, i ordered a russian bride on the internet, and two weeks later, I had three of them sitting on my doorstep!

As if i was going to send any of them back!

Suho: I'd have contacted the company and told them about the updated history. Then, offered them to return the books, if they wanted them back and if they had a way so that you didn't have to pay for the delivery back to them.

But this is what _I_ would have done, not actually what anyone must have done.
I don't really care about what laws and fine prints say. I care about what I should do to feel okay. Most of the times, I feel okay when I obey the laws. In some occasions, it's the opposite. Laws can't deal right with all the situations we can run into in a lifetime.

Have you watched Pirates of the Caribbean? It's like "Parlez". More of a guideline,

viol: First of all, when I got the books, they had obviously been through the wringer (ie, they weren't in that great shape). Secondly, I needed them about eleven months before they arrived, and was rather pissed that they didn't get to me anywhere close to on time. Thirdly, considering it took them a year to get the books to me in the first place, I wasn't too sanguine about the possibility that they were going to be able to pick them up sometime in my lifetime.

Had it been a month or two late, yeah, I probably would have contacted them. But we're talking a year. The order didn't even show up in my order history anymore, which likely means that it wasn't on their computers. I do not feel, morally, that I was wrong in this situation, I was just wondering what the law said.
