Yeah, that model is gorgeous, but it's pretty old (has been on the internet for at least 2 years, I think), though.

Gweilo: Oh I suspect so - I'm sure I've seen here before but it was more the drawing together of the various models to see where the state of the art stood (I just couldn't be bothered grabbing anymore links).

ah, I thought you meant just the Kaya model, because of the title of your post.

To admit it, I didn't even read the article

They're getting extremely good with life-like animation. A few small but noticeable quirks in both Kaya and Eve Solal. The mouth doesn't yet move naturally, the eyes are good, and the head and shoulder movements look right, but the mouth movements make their faces look fake. Human lips are more maleable than they have at the moment...

I imagine it won't be too many more years before they have that all down pat - then they'll focus on making it cheaper to use a virtual model than it is to hire an actor or real model! Technology races forward!

Thanks for the link - the article was actually quite interesting, for those who didn't read it...

It sort of reminds me of the AI study being performed a while back... WOW a long while back. Sofie and Kaa were their names. I looked but couldn't find a link. When I stopped following the project they were trying to give Sofie 'eyes' and 'ears' so she could react to auditory and visual stimuli. Really very interesting.

Anybody happen to know where I can find the project again?

Very cool stuff. The mouths are definitely messed up. Kaya's mouth in particular seems to dominate her entire face. It's just too much. i think marlene was the most real looking proportionally. For realism I'd have to go with her again but it's hard to tell with the lighting they did.

bah.

overrated exposure just cause they're female. just the ususal "selling by sex"-marketing trick.

I have just one thing to say to you:

Max Headroom

Now that's realism!!

Max is cool but I think Gollum kicks all their asses.

quote:
Every facial muscle movement in my face has been analyzed by animators for the last three years. They pretend they're having conversations with you, but really they're looking at your face.

Just thought that line was worth repeating for some reason. I feel as though I've heard it before. How strange.

Reminds me of a highly repetitive argument I used to have with a friend of mine back in the 8th grade about whether Max Headroom was really computer generated or not. (Of course, he was not.)

cyoung - Gollum does kick all their asses! Don't know if any of you caught the 2002 MTV Movie awards, but Gollum got "Best Virtual Actor" - his acceptance was hysterical! I wish I'd had a VCR hooked up to tape it. I've never laughed so hard in my life!
