the only image I liked was a tree and two women, otherwise tasteless instantaneous art. I would have loved it more if he focused on quality and not quantity... I have known sand painters that do wonders creating 3d dimensional, colorful nature scenes and of course if this is your first time seeing one you can understand the potential.... thanks for the link, Arseniy

Well, on a technical level, he could have done better... It was the movement and the flow of it that really grabbed my attention... It was very smooth and the images flowed into each other pretty well, even when all he did was scatter some extra sand...

I watched it the first time through without sound and then with. As performance art it was not a bad piece, its unique. Was there a theme that I missed? If not a theme would be cool....

When I think of sand painting I visualize of the native american version of it, I think a similar piece viewed top down with some color might be nice to look at too.

GraFFix: I had never seen sand painting. Thanks. As bodhi23 said, the flow is impressive and the painting is synchronized with the music. Great performance.

rawbot69: I don't think it was a tree and two women but rather an evocation of the garden of Eden with Adam and Eve next to the apple tree. At least that's what I see, though I'm not in religion. At least one the "women" have a square shaped chest while the one the left have a more round one and some long hairs.

rawbot: Instantaneous, yes, but tasteless? That seems a bit harsh, especially since the idea of the presentation (as I saw it) was to flow quickly from one idea to the next. He was concentrating on speed and fluidity, not necessarily quality. Personally, I don't think there's anything wrong with that. It's like chess--there's traditional chess, and then there's speed chess, and they are two different games. You can't say one is "better" than the other.

And although probably no one cares, this was done at the opening ceremony for the 2003 Seoul International Cartoon & Animation Festival. The subtitle that appears at the beginning of the video simply says, "Pictures drawn by hand directly on a sand canvas."
