White noise would be your answer, becuase white noise is a generalised noise covering all frquency ranges. It was often used as a form of 'therapy' (read: torture) to inmates at insane asylum, becuase it totally cut off all sound while setting up a strange reaction in the ears that after a while can become quite painful. |

Yeah, we actually used to use it here, as a matter of fact, but I vigorously lobbied for a switch to shock therapy. I think we're much better off. |

hehe.. isn't it a physics question? |

Well, to be perfectly honest with you, I haven't studied physics for at least ten years now. I probably wouldn't know a physics question if I met one in a dark alley and it beat me to within an inch of my life. So it very well might be. |

Wouldn't that be a Physical question? |

I would have to agree with the White Noise answer. |

Yes...that is one of it's uses now...but to people who were...not quite right in the head, it could be a form of torture becuase suddenly they've been cut off from everything around them. Without the distraction of other sounds around them their delusions could be more pronounced. The voice in the head get louder kind of thing. |

Actually I don't think it's white noise. White noise is acoustic energy covering sound, not transmitted noise or interference. |

any kind of transmissible interference can also be audible, simply by running it through an interpretation circuit (aka: a radio). Inversely, any audible interference noise can be transmitted and maintain it's properties, which, in this case, is to override any other transmitted signal of equal or lesser power. |
