ok so heres the deal, my dad is a tyranical nutbag, he has a very unsatisfying life so he gets his jollies from micromanageing mine- and has figured out how to configure somthing to block my using aol and icq- (im only 17, so i have an excuse for living with the parents) all i can gather is that it doesnt just block out the aim port, he did it from a windows xp pro computer on the network, and the web browser works fine, but aim express wont load up off the site - in the history there is an ip address looking thing and when i click it a windows passwordy thingy asks for my user and pasword, i know thats where he did it from- how can i defeat this work of evil? i dwnloaded the lopht crack and couldnt get much from that- i dont know how, someone please help me!

my new email is therealhexman190@yahoo.com and my aim is- oh wait, its blocked....... = (

send help soon

ps, he just informed me that he has installed a keystroke logger, so if anyone knows where those hide themselfs i would be gratefull

Diagnosis: You're FSCKd. Also, my spideysense says you did something completely wrong to lose the trust your dad had in you.

I'm not even sure I should be giving you advice. (The thread was on entirely the wrong forum, too. As we generally disapprove of hacking of any kind, there's no set place for such things.) However.

For the keystroke logger, there's two things you can do.

1) type a nonsense word like supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, and let windows search for that. (it has a searchfunction that looks for words in files) You can use that to find the log of the keylogger.

2) Find yourself a program that lets you use the mouse to emulate the keyboard to circumvent the keylogger. Some can be found here.

This is a very tedious solution, though.

I prefer the "Live with your parents, but do what you want" philosiphy myself. Thats probably why im the network administrator here hehe.

Maybe you should installl another copy of windows on and dual boot secretly so he cant keylog you heh. Or run a cable directly to your PC and bypass his server heh. If he is constantly watching you tho that may be a problem ;P.

Your dad must be paranoid to do that, or you did something to make him like that.

Time to not type naughty words then eh?

Windows still comes with an on-screen keyboard. I'm pretty sure you don't have to install it from the Windows CD. As I recall, it's part of the default accessibility package that MS so kindly packaged as part of the normal Windows install.

Go to Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Accessibility -> On-Screen Keyboard

I'm not going to say you are screwed, Hexman190, but some of those keyloggers can be a real stink to find.

However, check the back of your computer and see if you see any odd devices plugged into the ps/2 keyboard port. As I recall, there's a keylogger that http://www.thinkgeek.com/ sells that just plugs into the ps/2 port. Pretty sneaky.

Either way, losing the trust of your father...damn dude... STBY.

Uh... kid... I know you really want to use AIM and all that... but I'm pretty sure that if you reformat and daddy finds out, you'll be knee deep in trouble.

Look before you leap, 'cause once you've jumped there's no where to go but down.

Lets start from the beginning. WHY did he block the major portion of your internet access? Without this information we don't even know if you SHOULD be helped. Start explaining and maybe we can help you before you go and F things up more. And if it took you this long to find the router filter you aren't prepared to reformat a server (at least not without leaving a milewide trace). My bet is you're spending too much time chatting with people and not doing what you're supposed to be doing. Homework, chores around the house, who knows what else. Sounds like he grounded you from the phone.

Oh.. and I'm sure he loved the nutbag comment.

17 eh? So close to independence you can just taste it... My parents always said that if I wanted to live under their roof, I would live under their rules. They pay the internet connection bill, therefore, they have complete control of it. Nothin' you can do about that, man. If your dad doesn't want you doing something on his internet connection, he is in his complete rights to forbid you to do it.

Of course this doesn't sit well with you. You're in that in-between stage: not quite child, not quite adult. It's a very frustrating place to be. You want to control your own life - but you really don't yet. But understand that how you behave here determines the course of your future. If you want to be treated like an adult, you must act like one. You might try sitting down with him and discussing, rationally, what it is that your father doesn't like you doing on the computer and then try to come to some kind of compromise.

Communication is everything in family relationships. If you can't be honest with your family, who can you be honest with? I realize this may not sound like the best proposal, but if you do it right, he may be impressed with your adult approach to the issue and actually discuss his problem with your internet useage in a way that you and he can understand and work through. He could also be a complete ass about it, which, as stated above is completely within his rights as the person who pays the bills. It's a chance you should probably take though. At least you'll know one way or the other.

Parents are important. They brought you into this world, they succor you until you can stand on your own two feet - many longer than they bargained for to begin with. Parents deserve your complete respect - even if you think they don't.

If you can't deal with it - get a job, move out and support your own internet habits. It's what we all have to do eventually.
