Well guys, I came across this on my nightly web trolling. I am a bit of a history buff and I came across this. The Christmas Truce.

Sanity is optional... (and so is clothes!)

Considering that they were in the middle of a war, I consider that the dumbest thing I've ever read.

So, by your logic, it's dumb not to kill people?

I hope you never get elected into a position of power.

Yep, I've always loved that story. And that site is one of the better WWI information resources around as well - one of my favorites.

One prime example of the people being far more sensible than their leaders (and more human).

I'm at a loss as to your comment though ram.....

Thanks for the story Wolfen, though it is saddening to see that the most beautiful feeling humans can feel, love, is so ephemeral.

If war is to be fought, why should we fight like barbarians? The men in the trenches are only following orders. Many of them would prefer not to be killing the men across the line from them. I'm not surprised at these actions.

Why not take a break from all the bloodshed and relax on both sides for a short time? Especially at a time of year when many cultures celebrate peace.

Certainly not realistic in these times though... I'm not surprised about that either.

can't wait for Christmas.
This is my first Christmas as a father,
and Santa is getting my son Lincoln Logs, amoung other things.
Well, he's only 10 months, so the Lincoln Logs are sort of for me
But I'm sure he will enjoy watching me build little houses for him.

Ahh yea. As far as war, I don't see any reason not to take a break from
killing people to have a good time and relax.

I think Paul "Macca" McCartney brought out one of those sickening Christmas songs to celebrate the occasion a good few years ago.

I think maybe ram thought it had been made up.

Not to worry...that story is, in fact, true.

I think I should have put that 'This is a TRUE story. It really happened.'
