Any inmates here using Trillian?
I quite like it but ,,,,,there is always a BUT isn't there I have yet to find a way to send or recieve a file transfer sucessfully. Is it a matter of configuring the prog', upgrading (I am using v0.74 ((w/patch F))- October 2003) or pure Magic ?
I have followed the usual instructions in the prog' itself with no joy, then I started to trawl through the Cerulean Studios forums, but gave up as it was like trying to swim through treacle with a monkey on my back, with answers like;

Arghh, my Tao/idiot interface hits meltdown, heh
If file transfer is not possible with this version of Trillian I would like to hear what you use to quickly send files to others, apart from email that is.. What would you recommend?

Is that what you're saying here?

Do you really think both mas and myself had not managed to work that out ourselves!!!!!
I was hoping for something a little more constructive than that fella.

I have just solved this problem for me by turning off the Windows XP firewall

So if you haven't already I'd recommend you try that (and if you need another firewall have a look at Sygate's Personal Firewall, it's good & free).

Hope it works for the two of you as well.

Cheers kuckus for the help. I am already using Sygate firewall so it's not that I'm sorry to say. (sorry, 'cos if it was that would have solved it for me). AH well 'tis no biggie, I can always send stuff by email, or linkage but I must admit it still bugs me.
mas, I'm going back to the Cerulean web site for more info, If I find a soloution I'll let you know.

hey i also have the same problem with trillian. I've also v0.74 and the update. But really strange is that it did work long time ago but only with two or three guyz on my contact list. The others never got my file. I have also a firewall and some pop-up blockers. That was the reason why my network didn't work, but not the reason of the error of trillian. If somebody get a solution, please write it in here.

And you're both sure you've disabled Windows XP's built-in firewall for all your network connections?
(right click on connections in control panel > properties > advanced > internet connection firewall ...)

If there are some people who can in fact receive files sent from your PCs, though, it might just be that all the others are running WinXP and have their XP firewalls activated...

if you are using a router, yah, you gotta go in the settings and tell it.... how to do stuff.

I think you have to tell it what IP addys you want to use to share files.... or... something.

Q file transfer wont work for my unless i poke around in my router for a bit.

I posted up this problem on the Cerulean Studios Forums not so long ago. Here is the discussion. The bottom line for my problem was given by Dreadnought

Pro users can get very prompt response through the support ticket system, these technical support forums are more community driven, and help is provided on an 'as and when' basis.

As it is, I can't help you with your problem, so you will have to continue waiting, I'm afraid.

The thead is worth reading if you are having similar problems though, as other people have posted with slightly different difficulties, which may be of help to you.
Although I have had grave misgivings about MSN Messenger in the past a good friend suggested I have a look at the new version 6.1Messenger I downloaded and started using it last week and I must say it is a Big improvement from all other versions. So far I have had no problems with it at all in fact I am starting to like it.

I have the same problem, and yes I have the xp firewall disabled and I've opened a hole in my other firewall to let trillian through, but still nada.

I figure the problem will fix itself eventually, by someone updating the program or by getting off my arse and finding a better IM client. I'm sure there are other programs around similar to trillian.
