I'm now looking for an alternative viruscan tool to be used in conjuction with Symantec's Enterprise Viruscan. I used the housecall virscan on trendmicro's website and it found three virii that Symantec couldn't find and I even searched Symantec's online DB for them and they aren't listed at all. This surprises me slightly considering I use Adaware and Spybot S&D in conjuction for almost 100% spyware removal.

Can anyone recommend a good viruscanner that has a comprehensive and frequently updated dat list of virii?

Thanx,

Boudga

I have been using AVG for the past few months (The free version) with daily updates and so far all has been well.
(I hope I'm not tempting fate by saying that)!

[Doh] Just realised I'm recommending the same one as DL-44. Sorry Boudga, so that's two votes for AVG, Heh[/Doh]

I didn't have any problems with my Norton AntiVirus so far... And I doubt that TrendMicro's AV has larger virus database than Symantec. So, Boudga, were those two viruses located inside some archive that NAV couldn't extract natively and are those two really viruses? Also, are you using latest Symantec virus definitions?

Based on my experience, NAV is much better than AVG. But it's not free and it's bloatware. But it's good.

Mr. Max I agree that SAV is a great product however I am concerned that it couldn't locate TROJ GOLID.A in a file on my HDD named RREUOAHZ.DLL located in my winnt\system32 folder

They don't even list it in their online DB and my DATS are dated 01/07/04.
