I don't have anything special in my desktop. Actually, I like it clean. There is no icon, no clock, no reminder, no bars, nothing at all, just the wallpaper, that I change once in a while (once every three months, as an average, I'd say).

As for the theme, I'm using the default Silver XP Style that comes with WinXP.

Currently, my wallpaper = my desktop is a montage of four pictures of New York, taken when that blackout happened. I took the photos from some famous site and made the lame montage. Originally, it's a 1024 x 768 2.25 MB bmp file.

Jason, honestly I feel like such a twerp
I've not seen a dual monitor set up before. So the thought that it could be a screenshot of your desktop over two monitors, never troubled my brain at all. What's more, I thought you must have some kind of monster widescreen monitor that I just had not heard of before
And here's me thinking "I don't need any more therapy"

I was one of those fortunate enough to have a tastefully padded cell with a little living room annex. I've not used Litestep or PowerPro, I like the way you have your DT, and that calender appeals to me more and more. I want one btw Tao is Yang
db what's "Crazy Browser"?
bitdamaged, I like the idea of matching skins, I'll have to check that out.
Amerasu, apart from my wallpaper, which, having a digi cam, I change almost daily. I have kept my Warcraft desktop for a couple of years
Wolfen, ah Macs, I remember them fondly. Dig that artwork too. Which reminds me, sometimes, when I am working on an image and I'm a bit stuck. I set it as the wallpaper, so my subconscious can go to work on it while I'm doing other things on the computer.
kromaZ, that's a nice clean affair. Are those custom icons you have? That reminds me to make some myself.
norm, whoa, it that a scrollable startbar? Nice pic.
eyezaer, heh another wide screen M62?? I definitely need more astro' pictures.
Ramasax, thanks for the info (re Trillian chat today). I'm going to work on making an active destop later on. Thanks for showing me that feature, I had totally missed it.

Ramasax - If you wanna try out LS, I'd rather suggest you to get one of the independent builds, rather than the regular release. The later provides you lots of stuff you wont ever use, and its quite annoying to get it to work right. I can send you my own step.rc if you want.

Object Desktop is not only not free, but as Oz said, it does eat Ram as hell, and just provides a pretty gui, but zero real functionality.

If you still want simpleness to configure and pretty gui, I'd rather point you to Aston shell. not the best around, but quite simple and pretty.

Tao - Get the calendar over one of the links i posted in my third post on this thread. ¬¬

The XP box is just another dual-monitor rig. Full size (163KB) Half size (44KB) I keep it clear of icons, so I included the stuff pinned to my Start menu. (Stop laughing and pointing. A certain editor is required by a client who pays on time and in full.)

Alevice, I am going to give one of those independent builds of LS a shot. One thing I missed immediately and can't live without is the quicklaunch or an equal alternative, at least it wasn't there by default wehn I was testing it out.

Tao: By shell she means the native windows user shell, explorer.exe - LiteStep is an alternative shell that will run in its stead. Gee, that probably doesn't help much. I guess a shell can be described as a program which controls the way you interact with your PC.

Ramasex - Quick launch, huh? Well, don't really expect it to have something like that by default. The indie builds make you write everything by yourself, without the annoyance of already build themes that may just be purposeless for you.

Powerpro can emulate something liek that quite easy, tho (yeah, talk about having multiple crap to get stuff to work right, but its just Powerpo is so damn cool).

tao - There is acltaully plenty of already built html desktops around, I myself have one that bothered to recode, and get as inspiration for a couple of elements of my startup page.

Alevice: Aston seems to be what I was looking for. Doesn't seem to be eating any more resouces than explorer would. The Windows part of my world (resolution now improved to 3584x1344) - I normally use the Matrox Multidesk software (comes with the dual-header) to provide 4 stacked desktops - 1=general work, 2- graphics (fullscreen Photoshop/ImageReady), 3 - Code editing and testing (RealEdit - Zend Studio 3.0), 4 - monitor - VNC/Exceed sessions to all my other boxes) and I run about the same setup at work, just a different wallpaper.

My Linux Laptop (picture is redhat 7.3 kde3.0 - now upgraded to fedora core 1 - KDE 3.2) ... I use KDE's built-in desktop manager to give me 4 desktops, set up as per the windows box above

For visuals I run 2x21" Iiyama 451 crt screens via 2 x 4-way KVM switches (one for KV+M1 the other for just M2)

I couldn't screendump the other dual-header (my linux webdev box) because I'm at work and it's at home, but it would be boring anyway, 'coz it only looks like a 3584px x 1344px version of the laptop ... and the last box - the firewall/web/mail/ssh/shoutcast server - only has a text screen.

BTW - I got everything I have from junkpiles and closing-down companies except for the laptop, and that came as part of a redundancy package ... so the whole shooting match has cost me $0 so far ...

If I had the money, this is the one monitor I'd buy. Just one would be enough for my needs, actually, more than enough.

$2600.00????......man....that's one heck of a price for a monitor...
I don't think I could bring myself to spend that much money on a monitor. I'll just stick with my 2 ton boulder on my desk

I've been toying around with alot of program launchers and I like them. I'm seriously considering using litestep or hoverdesk, although I've heard that once you install litestep, it's hard to undo it, so I'm hesitant. Anybody know the differences between the two?

and Worms. Armageddon > Worms: World Party

EDIT:

jive - neither the official ls distribution nor any independent build is hard to uninstall. I have not used hoverdesk tho.

I'm on a desktop rampage now. I installed litestep, (which seems ok), the trial version of hoverdesk, (seems pretty good). But I found a couple of really good apps: objectdock and Y's Dock (discontinued). They are skinnable applauncher that are alot alike the macs OSX's dock launcher. Best of all it's free! Anyways, I found it useful. Tell me if you do also.
